Is it really possible to make a thousand dollars a week with affiliate programs? Yes and no.

With all of the get rich quick emails and websites out there telling you you’ll be able to earn thousands of dollars weekly with this affiliate program or that, it can be both exciting and frustrating at the same time.

You join an affiliate program… pay for some promotions or spend your time surfing traffic exchanges, and you wonder why you aren’t raking in the dough they claim you should be.

Does that mean you’re doing something wrong? Does it mean the affiliate program doesn’t work?

It could be, but most likely not.

The truth of the matter is, there are four factors you need to consider for making your affiliate programs a success.

Fact #1: If an affiliate program is promising you thousands with “no work” – then right away that should turn on the red warning light in your mind. No one can promise you thousands with ‘no work’. There ARE legitimate affiliate programs and opportunities where you can earn with little work, but at first every affiliate program / opportunity requires some work. If you do nothing – you’ll get nothing. It’s as simple as that.

Fact #2: Alongside fact #1, if you want to build a serious income online with affiliate programs, you can’t expect anyone to do it for you. Sure, some sites will do joint promotions like ad co-ops for their affiliates, or will provide the products for you. However, it is up to you to do some promotions. If you must do free promotions, make sure you spend as much time as you can doing it. Preferably try to do some paid promotions.

Fact #3: The affiliate product might be oversaturated. When an affiliate program is popular, it seems everyone is trying to jump on the bandwagon to promote that same affiliate program / offer. Not a bad thing – it shows that it is definitely a popular program or product. The problem arises when everyone promotes the same way. An easy fix to this, is to change the way you promote. Instead of using the company supplied affiliate ads, create your ads to be different, interesting. (Just don’t misrepresent the program).

Fact #4: Limiting yourself to any one affiliate product or affiliate program will almost never make you thousands weekly – especially not on a long term basis… unless you own the program/product. And even then, you shouldn’t expect just one affiliate program to make you that kind of money indefinitely.

So what do you do to earn the thousands weekly that people claim you can make with affiliate programs?

Option 1: Change the way you promote. Watch newsletters, ezines and the sites you frequent to advertise on, and see if others are promoting the same affiliate program or products. If they are – you might not want to waste your time or money on that same resource. Find another one. If you don’t see others promoting the same affiliate program or pduct, then you should use that resource to promote. Solo ads are best, but be interesting as I mentioned above.

Option 2: Add other affiliate income streams or back-end profit choices. This could be by very actively promoting other affiliate products, or subtly adding adsense links, or other type of ads on your website.

Option 3: Probably the most lucrative of all, make sure you create your own products to sell! Use your affiliate programs and recommendations as back-end / side line income streams rather than the main focus.

Affiliate programs can make you money if you do it wisely – and if you, you can bypass all the other people who are struggling each week to make it online.
