2008 One Of The Greatest Seasons Ever

The 2008 New York Yankees season will go down in my memories as one of the greatest baseball seasons of all time. Most of you that know me both through here (and even more so personally) will be saying right now “Penny (Ed) what the hell are you talking about, we had a roster decimated by injuries, we closed our beloved cathedral, and we missed the playoffs for the first time in 13 years. What the heck was so ‘memorable’ about this season”? Well friends, I will tell you my reasons why.
You see I am a ‘diehard’ Yankees fan, and like most Yankees fans, the thought of any other team winning anything, absolutely disgusts me. However strong these feelings may be, I cannot help feel good for the True Fans of the Tampa Bay Rays. You see I am from the Tampa Bay area, and although I am a Yankees fan, a lot of family members/friends of mine are true fans of the Tampa Bay Rays. You see with Legends field being in Tampa, not to mention George Steinbrenner being a major member of the community, there are a lot of us Yankees fans in the Tampa area. I would even go out on a limb to say we may outnumber Rays fans in the area. You could go to a Rays game at the Trop (Tropicana Field) and the “let’s go Yankees” chants would outring the home team chants. But there were always those select few that stayed true. There was that 66 year old man, that I got into a physical altercation with in 2006, there was that St Pete police officer who I verbally accosted in 2005, and then there are my family and friends, who I have rained down on unrelentessly for the past 10+ years for their loyalty to a miserable team. Well ladies and gentlemen, look who is laughing now, and also look who is no longer taking phone calls from the Tampa/St Pete area. Congrats to the true Rays fans, and enjoy the bandwagon that is soon to follow.

The Rays winning the AL East is not my true reason that this year will go down in my memories as one of the greatest. That reason happened on July 23rd 2008.
On July 23rd I went to the Cathedral in the Bronx for the final time. It was a day game, Mike Mussina took the mound against the Twins, I paid for my tickets with StubHub gift certificates I won here on the Zoo, and I brought my daughter to the game. I had to bring her to Yankees Stadium once before it closed. We flew from Honolulu, Hawaii to make sure we could be there one more time. And the baseball gods rewarded us for our effort. It was an absolutely beautiful day in the Bronx, Moose pitched a 8 inning gem, I witnessed the worlds loudest ‘craaaaaaaa-cker jaaaaaaa-ck’ caller, and for the first time in Yankees stadium saw my daughter participate in her 1st ‘let’s go Annkees’ in the House that Ruth Built.
Does it get any better?

Pennywise is one of the biggest sports fans out there. Now that MLB is coming to an end, he's got his heart set on ncaa basketball. He's an expert at ncaa basketball picks and is usually very close at guessing the ncaa basketball scores. The Yanks didn't live up to his expectations, so he's hoping that UT will be on top of the ncaa basketball standings this year.
