I created three different teams from three different eras in the NBA to
see which era would win if they played each other. The games were
simulated through whatifsports.com.
The player were chosen based on the best individual seasons of that era not based on an entire career. 50-60's Team Starting Lineup PG Oscar Robertson (1961-1962) Stats-31.9 Points 12.5 Rebounds 11.4 Assist 2.6 Steals SG Rick Barry (1966-1967) Stats-36.7 Points 9.2 Rebonds 3.6 Assist 1.7 Steals SF Elgin Baylor (1962-1963) Stats-34.9 Points 14.3 Rebounds 4.8 Assist 1.8 Steals PF Spencer Haywood (1969-1970) Stats-30 Points 19.5 Rebounds 2.3 Assist 1.4 Blocks C Wilt Chamberlain- (1961-1962) Stats-50.4 Points 25.7 Rebounds 2.4 Assist 5 Blocks Bench PG Jerry West (1965-1966) Stats-32.5 Points 7.1 Rebounds 6.1 Assist 1.8 Steals PF Connie Hawkins (1967-1968) Stats-26.7 Points 13.4 Rebounds 4.6 Assist 1.5 Blocks SG John Havlicek (1969-1970) Stats-25.1 Points 7.8 Rebounds 6.8 Assist 1.8 Steals PF Jerry Lucas (1967-1968) Stats-21.9 Points 19 Rebounds 3.1 Assist 1.3 Blocks PF Bob Petit (1961-1962) Stats-31.7 Points 18.7 Rebounds 3.7 Assist 1.4 Blocks C Walt Bellamy (1961-9162) Stats-31.6 Points 19 Rebounds 2.7 Assist 3.5 Blocks C Bill Russell (1959-1960) Stats-18.2 Points 24 Rebounds 3.7 Assist 3.5 Blocks 70-80's Team Starting Lineup PG Magic Johnson (1986-1987) Stats-23.9 Points 6.2 Rebounds 12.2 Assist 2.6 Steals SG Clyde Drexler (1988-1989) Stats-27.2 Points 7.9 Rebounds 5.8 Assist 2.7 Steals SF Larry Bird (1984-1985) Stats-28.7 Points 10.5 Rebounds 6.6 Assist 1.6 Steals PF Kevin Mchale (1986-1987) Stats-26.1 Points 9.9 Rebounds 2.6 Assist 2.2 Blocks C Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1971-1972) Stats-34.9 Points 16.6 Rebounds 4.6 Assist 3 Blocks Bench SG George Gervin (1979-1980) Stats-33.1 Points 5.2 Rebounds 2.6 Assist 1.4 Steals PG Isiah Thomas (1984-1985) Stats-21.2 Points 4.5 Rebounds 13.9 Assist 2.3 Steals SF Julius Erving (1974-1975) Stats-27.9 Points 10.9 Rebounds 5.5 Assist 2.2 Steals PF Charles Barkley (1987-1988) Stats-28.3 Points 11.9 Rebounds 3.2 Assist 1.3 Blocks PG Walt Frazier (1973-1974) Stats-21.5 Points 6.7 Rebounds 6.9 Assist 2 Steals C Artis Gilmore (1971-1972) Stats-23.9 Points 17.8 Rebounds 2.7 Assist 3.3 Blocks C Moses Malone (1981-1982) Stats-31.1 Points 14.7 Rebounds 1.8 Assist 1.5 Blocks 90-Present Team PG Gary Payton (1999-2000) Stats-24.2 Points 6.5 Rebounds 8.9 Assist 1.9 Steals SG Michael Jordan (1990-1991) Stats-31.5 Points 6.8 Rebounds 5.5 Assist 2.7 Steals SF LeBron James (2005-2006) Stats-31.4 Points 7 Rebounds 6.6 Assist 1.6 Steals PF Kevin Garnett (2003-2004) Stats-24.2 Points 13.9 Rebounds 5 Assist 2.2 Blocks C Shaquille O'Neal (1999-2000) Stats-29.7 Points 13.6 Rebounds 3.8 Assist 3 Blocks Bench PG Jason Kidd (1998-1999) Stats-16.9 Points 6.8 Rebounds 10.8 Assist 2.3 Steals SG Kobe Bryant (2005-2006) Stats-35.4 Points 5.3 Rebounds 4.5 Assist 1.8 Steals SF Grant Hill (1996-1997) Stats-21.4 Points 9 Rebounds 7.3 Assist 1.8 Steals PF Karl Malone (1990-1991) Stats-29 Points 11.8 Rebounds 3.3 Assist 1 Block PF TIm Duncan (2001-2002) Stats-25.5 Points 12.7 Rebounds 3.7 Assist 2.5 Blocks C David Robinson (1993-1994) Stats-29.8 Points 10.7 Rebounds 4.8 Assist 3.3 Blocks C Hakeem Olajuwon (1992-1993) Stats-25.8 Points 13 Rebounds 3.6 Assist 4.1 Blocks To determine the 2 Finalist each team first played 6 games against each other. In my opinion I think the 90-Present is actually the best team. They have great defense with Garnett, Payton and Jordan. LeBron and Shaq can score. They also have good bench scoring with Kobe, Malone, and Grant Hill. Hakeem and David are great defensive centers who can also rebound and Kidd can play good defense off the bench. I think the 50-60's team and 70-80's team did not have a defense that could beat the 90-Present team.
