Every profession has its ways on how to be successful at it, including on becoming a makeup artist. Although having the eye for creativity is important in this type of career, having other skills to pair it with will double or even triple your success rate.

Tip 1 on becoming a makeup artist

Hone your skills. Ok we get, you are creative, and you can paint lips perfectly with your eyes closed. But wait, creativity is a talent, but without further education or exposure to the new things happening in the makeup industry then your styles and techniques might get outdated. Constant learning is important to be competitive, and being competitive is one key on becoming a seasoned makeup artist. So learn then earn, learn and earn some more!

Tip 2 on becoming a seasoned makeup artist

Get the right tools. Now this doesn’t mean you spending on the most expensive set of brushes and eye shadows. Having the know on where and how to get good quality makeup merchandise will ease the burden in your pocket and give you better results with your gig. That also means that you don’t cheapen out on makeup items that you end up compromising your clients skin condition. Skin allergies, rashes are the worst complaints you don’t want to experience on becoming a seasoned makeup artist.

Tip 3 on becoming a seasoned makeup artist

Be professional. Being on time and having a good work ethic is important on becoming a seasoned makeup artist. Remember that your clients are priority number 1 in every business and not you.

Tip 4 on becoming a seasoned makeup artist

Get connected. Ever wondered why some makeup artist are successful and some aren’t? Simple, they know who and how to link up with people. Join organizations, attend seminars and get your name out. Even reconnect with your previous clients to tell them you are active in the industry. If someone refers you to a future client, have the courtesy to give a commission or even a thank you gift to tell them you appreciate what they have done.

Tip 5 on becoming a seasoned makeup artist

Be positive. Nothing beats having a positive outlook towards your career. It is understandable that everyday may not be a happy day for your artistic profession. But having a positive attitude in general will help you see challenges as opportunities, and that’s something any makeup artist should do in becoming a seasoned makeup artist.
