Some of the problems that troubled teens experience are their inability to weigh risks appropriately, substance addiction, depression, low self-image, and trouble finding ways to spend their time.
One of the most challenging transitions people may face in their life is going from a teenager to an adult. Adolescents often will face hard situations or difficult decisions while going through their teenage years. Given that such awkward times are nearly impossible to avoid, you can certainly support your kids by learning about the issues they face, then by keeping the lines of communication open.
Not have the ability to weigh risks appropriately
The daredevil approach is not just restricted to troubled youth, but is also rather common within youth and preteens. Life for a teenager in these difficult times is fraught with the temptations to engage in dangerous practices such as using drugs, having intercourse and abusing alcohol. For some teenagers, risk-taking is a way to express themselves and, unfortunately, they can make poor decisions with little awareness or weighing of the risks involved. Irrespective of whether it's the youth's careless mindset or an act of rebellion, parents and guardians must take it upon themselves to explain to their kids that there are results to their actions.
Substance addiction
You may be able to tell if your teen is having trouble dealing with the stress of life if they are showing signs of addiction to things like drugs and alcohol. It says, that it is essential for parents to spend time to inquire and take note whether their kids are going though any form of anxiety or strain in their daily work. In addition, parents should equip themselves by being aware of the various signs and manifestations of youth drug abuse and addiction. This method allows parents to address the issue right at the beginning.
Feeling low or depressed
Adults and young people are both easily affected by depression. A teenager's health and well being can be affected by different types of depression. He or she might become reclusive, experience sleep problems or have a dramatic change in their eating habits. Early detection of the triggers of an episode of childhood depression is important and therefore it is vital that parents are constantly in touch with their children's mental and emotional well being. The other alternative would be to ask a professional to assess your child.
Minimal view of self
Teenagers normally become very specific about their appearance in this stage of life. Some have the need to want to fit in and be accepted in fancy social circles and they become obsessed with how they look. Unhappiness with their appearance and social status can be real problems for teenagers. It makes them feel poorly about themselves. Parents should provide a positive and encouraging environment for their children to help them build a healthy self-image. Children will develop self confidence no matter what others say in this way.
Difficulty in finding things to do in their spare time
Kids with nothing special to do can get into a lot of trouble. Parents should be the first to teach their children how to spend their time productively. For parents who do not know what to expect in the spare time of the children, supporting a healthy and constructive hobby can be a good start.
As long as parents work closely with their adolescent children, teens can progress through their developmental stage without serious mistakes or regrets.
Retirement is a State of MindJul 1, 2011 - 9:09:39 AM For some people, moving their elderly parents into a retirement community is a display of irresponsibility.
