Long Term Care For Women and Why It Is Important - We cannot deny the fact that women, especially mothers, play a big part in our lives and largely contribute to the kind of person we have become. But it is sad to realize that after all the hard work and sacrifices that these women have gone through for our sake, we cannot provide them with the type of long term care for women that they deserve.
We cannot
deny the fact that women, especially mothers, play a big part in our lives and
largely contribute to the kind of person we have become. But it is sad to
realize that after all the hard work and sacrifices that these women have gone
through for our sake, we cannot provide them with the type of long term care
for women that they deserve.
Elder women
comprise almost the majority of the population in a nursing home or adult day
care facility. They outnumber the men who also receive treatment from nursing
homes simply because women tend to have longer life span than men, making them
more prone to serious illnesses such as Alzheimer’s and would require longer
treatment and confinement.
But not all
women have the privilege of being taken good care by medical professionals in
an authorized nursing home because a large percentage of women aged 65 years
old and above were not able to plan ahead regarding their LTC needs.
These women
were not able to purchase an LTC insurance plan when they were younger and have
stable financial resources to cover and pay for their monthly premiums. Most of
them used their money and other income to support their family’s needs, or
worse, they were left with no choice but to quit their jobs to take care or
oversee their own families.
More often
than not, the need for long term care for women is only realized after they
experienced difficulty doing certain tasks due to some diseases and illnesses
that they acquired. It is too late for them to pay for their LTC plans because
they no longer have sufficient income to cover the usually expensive monthly
premiums.
One more sad
fact is that they are left with no one to take care of them because their
children have their own families and are too busy with their hectic schedules and
other activities. And even though their children may let these elder women stay
with them, they would still not be able to give them the proper kind of care
that their health condition requires and demands.
With LTC
insurance policies, these hardworking and loving women will be assured that
they will only receive the best and highest quality of LTC services and
facilities, plus the professional and skilled medical workers who will be
assigned to manage and supervise their day-to-day lives in a nursing home.
Their loved
ones will also be assured of their condition by the medical workers who will
give them updates regarding the progress, development, or other concerns of
their loved one who is confined in an adult day care facility. They do not have
to worry because the welfare and wellbeing of their loved one is the primary
concern and is given utmost importance by those who were tasked to take care of
them.
Some private
sectors and organizations are demanding and pushing those in the government to
provide more flexible requirements or guidelines when it comes to long term
care for women
so that more women would have the opportunity to experience the right kind of
care and treatment that they need.
