Useful tips to choose the right portable video game console

As with most technology, small gadgets are always popular. This is true for games consoles. Since the release of Nintendo’s Game Boy, in the late 1980s, gamers have demanded decent portable video game consoles. Console makers have responded to this demand with several products to suit almost every need.

This article will look at the two most popular options in portable gaming: the Nintendo DS, and the Sony PSP. Aspects such as cost, playability, games, and online functions will be discussed, to give some idea of which console suits particular needs.

Why choose a Nintendo DS?

Nintendo have always made great quality machines, with a plethora of excellent games. The DS is no exception, it is the best-selling portable console ever. With a dual screen, online capabilities, and built-in microphone, Nintendo has surpassed any boundaries set for portable gaming. They also utilise touch-screen technology, which adds an exciting element to their games.

The DS has the ability to link with other DSs in the near proximity, using wireless, which allows players to compete with, or against each other using their own individual machines.

The games available for the DS range from traditional Mario games, like Super Mario Bros, or Mario Kart, to far more sophisticated and modern games like Guitar Hero and the Brain Training series.

There are several versions of the DS available, such as the DS Lite and the Dsi, which offer lighter, or more powerful consoles respectively.

If you want a fun, varied, and exciting portable games consoles, look no further than the Nintendo DS Lite. It is suitable to all ages, and gamers of all abilities. However, if you want a more intense, fulfilling portable machine, there is one other option.

Why choose a Sony PSP?

Sony’s Playstation Portable may not have sold as many units as Nintendo’s DS, but is for many, a far better system. It has a larger screen, outstanding multimedia capabilities, and a better selection of games.

The PSP also has the ability to connect with its mother, the PS3, and fellow PSPs, using the internet, making it just as versatile as the DS.

PSP games are often cheaper than its rival, which makes it a great choice for any struggling budget.

Gamers who choose the PSP, want a more authentic and substantial gaming experience. Sony have created an amazing product, which offers the widest selection of games to play on-the-go.

Both the DS and the PSP are amazing feats of technology, but serve very different purposes. When looking for a portable console, it is important to ask: what do I want from it? If you want fun and usability, the DS is an excellent choice. If you want a proper gaming experience away from home, the PSP is the only choice.
