Breathe Deeply the Purified Air

Air is a common good we all should  take care of to take care of the environment and of ourselves, both in the open air and in closed places.

Just think, for example, of the businesses like pubs or restaurants that install suction systems so that their clients can smoke, or either of the factories that must have suction systems to take care of their workers’ health.

As far as the smoke suction in the pubs, the law in Italy is relatively new: it arrived in 2003, making it compulsory to install suction systems to renew the air in the rooms reserved to smokers, that must anyway be physically delimited with walls and have an automatic door. Also, they must have a system to let fresh air in, that can come either from the outside or from an adjacent non-smoking room; moreover, the smoking areas must not be a forced step in the pub, so that non-smokers do not have to cross them unless they want to.

The law is thought to take care of the clients health, but maybe even more of the workers who, without a system of suction would have breathed secondhand smoke during their whole working day, risking the same illnesses of a smoker even though they do not smoke. The law against the smoke in the businesses has been favourably welcomed in Italy by a great part of the population, smokers included, making the businesses more livable for everyone: children, pregnant women, but also those who suffer from respiratory diseases and why not, even for the same smokers, who may also find the smoke annoying if constant.

In other places instead not only the suction and filtering systems are necessary, but also the depuration and dust suction systems and others, that is to say all the necessary to make the air breathable for those who must stay in those places during their working days.

Air is rightly considered a precious good, as it is fundamental for our lives: hence, we should make what we can to make so that the air can be as pure as possible, using purifying   systems where it is necessary or, thinking about the cities, more and more covered with smog, organizing the traffic in order to control and limit it. If you think about it, in fact, in some cases the air in a pub with a suction system can be purer than the air we breathe in the street: it would be better, then, to think a little bit more about what we can do, if not to purify it, not to make the air we breathe even more unbreathable.

What we all can do is following some little device, like respecting the areas in which the traffic is limited and using public means of transportation, bicycle or even your own legs when possible: not only this will contribute not to worsen the pollution of the air, but it’s a way to save money and make some movement, to avoid the stress of the traffic and why not, maybe even to enjoy your city and see it from a different point of view.
