It doesn’t matter whether you are thinking about saving energy at home or in your workplace. The more you can do to identify potential sources of heat loss, the easier it will be to save energy, as this article reveals.
Most of us are getting rather good at saving energy wherever we can. For instance most of us know that we can save energy by reducing the amount of water we boil in the kettle, or turning down the heating by just one degree. We can make lots of little differences all around our homes and workplaces in lots of ways, but are you aware that you could still be losing heat from all kinds of sources?
This is where technology such as thermal imaging comes in. With the help of IR cameras the experts operating them can tell where heat is being lost without even having to set foot inside a particular building. This means that the owner of the building might think they are doing well in saving energy. But they could do even more by detecting heat loss and doing whatever they can to remedy the situation.
Thermal imaging will show the hot and cold spots on the exterior of any building. The more hot spots there are, the more heat is being lost through the walls and is being picked up by the IR cameras. This information can be very useful in detecting the weak points in a building where heat can escape. Normally these are through windows and doors, and also through the roof if it is not insulated.
If you can find out these facts about your own property you can see just how energy efficient it is. You can then make a decision about whether you want to invest some cash now to make it better able to keep the heat indoors. This in turn will save you energy on your heating bills, since you will be able to retain more heat inside the building.
As you can see it makes sense to do this wherever you can because you can save a lot of money in the long run. Whatever you do to improve the efficiency of your building – whether it is at work or at home – you will recoup in savings over time. So check out your building as soon as possible and see whether it is as efficient as you think it is.
