Incorporating the use of tree benches in the overall design of a garden helps one to expand the usable space in the yard. Tree benches are shaped in a hexagon around the base of trees. They can be placed around mature trees or newly planted trees.

These often were shifted as trees grew and roots pushed the stones away from the tree.
