Whenever we come out of a movie hall after watching a breath taking movie we usually give all the credit to the actors and to the Director of the film. Sometimes we can mention the name of the producer if he is familiar otherwise we tend to neglect the rest of the staff behind the films. However we should know that a film is not only made by the actors and the directors but hundreds of different people of various professions have also put in their dedicated effort and time behind it. The chief among them is a Storyboard Artist.

The idea of a storyboard artist may strike new to many people. Basically a storyboard artist is a highly skilled painter who is hired by directors for sketching out the scenes in paper before they are included into the film. This is done mainly to get an idea of how the scenes are going to look in front of the camera and also to estimate an idea of the cost, infrastructure and settings required to shoot the scene. The idea of storyboards is not a new concept in the film industry but has been used since the beginning of the twentieth century by many famous directors.

A Storyboard artist is hired according to the needs of the director and in many cases more than one artist can be employed in a single movie. The Storyboard Artists are generally given the idea and a deadline to come up with the sketches according to the given idea. Based on their drawings they are paid. Although the payment may not be a handsome one for the freshers but it is bound to rise with time and experience. Story boards are generally not only used in the main stream films but also in theaters or animation movies or for promotion of various businesses and for writing novels. The idea of story board writing is very popular because a good storyboard can attract a lot of customers from all over the world either to watch a movie or to buy a product and thus increase the profit.

There is no fixed qualification which is required to become a storyboard artist. However students who have completed some courses in animation or story making are generally appointed as storyboard painter. The job is not like other jobs where everything depends on a man's effort but high amount of luck is required to achieve success and be well renowned all over the world. However major portion of the success also depends on the creativity and hard work of the artists. So it is advised that one should not attempt for the sky at the first chance but should gradually rise by gaining experience and spending time in the industry. Nowadays with big budget movies and advertisements that are made all over the world the need for a good storyboard artist is growing day by day but it is also increasing the level of competition among the artists.
