 The more subscribers you have on your mailing list, the better. However, you will only get subscribers if your website is aesthetically pleasing and gives the user a good reason for them to be added to your mailing list. It's sad but accurate that many clients have a 'what's in it for me?' approach for when it comes to doing things for you, like signing up to an email marketing system.

 Email marketing kicks off with a form that encourages visitors to sign up to the mailing list in the first instance. The old formula of 'KISS' (Keep It Simple, Stupid!), is essential to remember as otherwise, you could find users are deterred by long forms that are generally time-consuming. Do not ask for more information than is necessary, and try to tell them exactly what they will receive in emails - like e-zines, promotions and such.

 So, when addressing the customer's 'what's in it for me?' attitude, give them a great incentive for them to sink their teeth into. Whether it is a limited offer of a discount, a complementary voucher or another inventive marketing ploy, you require to give them something worthwhile to get results. Useless giveaways will equal a useless campaign.

 A good attitude to employ when thinking of how giving things away fits into your email marketing scheme is the potential sales that can happen as a result of a person subscribing. You will be more than likely to see whether your marketing is doing well by the statistics provided by most services that also act as an insightful way of analysing consumer habit.

If your email marketing campaigns are predictable, it's probable that your customers won't open them because they will know what is coming. Resultantly, test the water with new campaigns frequently and check the statistics to see what the winners and losers are.
