Considering a Cageless Dog Boarding Facility

Not surprisingly, many dog lovers and canine enthusiasts also have a passion for travel. And, while some dog owners favorite four-legged friends make excellent travel companions, many opportunities to camp, travel, conduct business, or vacation are simply not appropriate for dogs. So, where does a compassionate dog owner turn in order to enjoy the joys and benefits of traveling without worrying that their dog is anxious, agitated, suffering from separation anxiety, or being destructive while they are away?

Many dog owners are now considering an increasingly popular alternative to traditional dog kennels or in-home dog sitters. These are cageless dog boarding facilities that more closely resemble hotels, spas, or home-away-from-home environments for your dog. Typically, cageless dog boarding is an open operation in a home or hotel style setting where your dogs roam free through out the location on a 24-hour a day basis. The obvious benefit being that this more closely resembles the lifestyle that your dog has become accustomed to while living with you.

Because cageless dog boarding allows dogs to roam freely around and feel like they are at home, dogs end up becoming more socialized, getting lots of exercise, and returning home much happier than when placed in a cage, pen, or kennel. This provides a sense of relief for dog owners worried about separation anxiety while they are gone. Owners report that they are more relaxed and comfortable while traveling because they are not worrying about their dog. They are able to travel with peace of mind knowing that their dogs are having fun while they are away having fun themselves. Some owners who have repeatedly boarded their dogs at a cageless facility have even gone so far as to report that they notice that their dogs becoming happier on their ride to the boarding location. Dogs tend to remember cageless facilities as places where they can roam free, play, and socialize!

Every dog has its own unique personality traits, fears, likes and dislikes. As a result, an owners absence can result in a wide variety of responses including severe separation anxiety, destructive behavior, and even depression. Rather than your dog suffering while you are on vacation or traveling for business, why no consider providing an opportunity for your dog to improve its socialization skills by roaming, playing, and exercising with other dogs while you have to be away. Why not turn your next trip out of town into a potentially beneficial opportunity for your dog?

When considering a cageless dog boarding facility owners should schedule an appointment to visit the location in person, ideally with their dog. Some things to look for are the caliber of the staff members, the presence or absence of incessant barking, whether or not the facility has rules and requirements for spay/neutering, potty training, flea control and updated vaccinations. Be sure to ask specific questions about the boarding facilities ability to separate dogs when necessary. Ask about cleaning chemicals, the use of pesticides and the facilities access to medical treatment in case of an emergency. In short, your visit to a cageless boarding facility should not only assure you that they operation is safe, well managed, and professional but should also clearly demonstrate one of your top priorities. Happy, content, well behaved dogs!
