Steps to keep the MDB file secured - MDB files get corrupt mainly because of three reasons; abrupt shutdown, faulty networking and while opening them in another application. There are some simple ways to salvage these files from getting corrupted (which are aforementioned). If a user still encounters the database errors then he can try the Compact and Repair Utility of Microsoft. If this utility too fails in recovering the MDB files then MDB File Recovery Tool of Kernel can be used.
MDB files are actually a Microsoft Access created database files for storing the structure (tables and fields), entries (table rows), data entry forms, queries, reports, and security settings. It is considered as the most widely used database program. There are mainly three ways because of which the MDB files can become corrupt – that we are going to discuss.
Interrupted write operation or abrupt shutdown
If a running database is suddenly closed then the Jet database engine flags it as corrupted. Improper shutdown, data collision, disk drives malfunction and technical breakdown can be some instances where the running database is forced to close. Then the Jet Engine sets a flag and resets the flag when the operation gets complete. So a user should properly close the running database by clicking on the exit option.
Damaged or faulty networking devise
A faulty networking devise can also corrupt the database without any role of Jet Engine. There can be more than one link in the chain of hardware on which the database resides while the database is open. The database corruption occurred because of faulty devise can be restored only by replacing the hardware.
Opening and saving of the MDB files in another program
We would like to inform you in the very beginning that there is no way to fix this corruption (unless you use a specifically designed software). When a user creates a file in MS word then there he should not open it in different application. If an MDB file is accidentally opened in different application then it should not be saved there.
Steps for preventing the MDB files from getting corrupted
Use a proper UPS for assuring uninterrupted power supply during database writes.
Always remember to utilize proper networking devices.
Try to save yourself from power loss, manual shutdown, Task Manager Shutdown, etc.
Exit all DAO and ADO objects like Recordset, QueryDef, etc. while programming.
Avoid fatal system errors which cause abnormal termination by fixing them in time.
Remember to keep the database compact.
Use TCP-IP instead of IPX on Microsoft Windows NT Server where the client is Windows 95 with IPX/SPX and Jet databases are residing.
Steps for repairing a damaged database
Create a backup of damaged database (MDB files).
Close the MDB files and delete the .ldb files.
Now Run the Compact and Repair Utility.
If still the database is not repaired then create a new database and import files into it.
Then re-create the relationships for repairing the damaged system tables in the database.
If the Compact and Repair Utility fails to restore the database then use MDB File Recovery Tool of Kernel. This is an effective software recovery software for restoring the MDB and ACCDB files. With the Template Mode and Standard Mode of this tool, a user can quickly fix the database damages. It uses the compact and repair Access 2007 database repair engine for restoring the tables, procedures, foreign keys, keys, Memo, table relationships, etc.
