Creativity and imagination are great talents but it should not be gotten out of hand. The secret to a good graphic design is a balance of art and principles. Absence of one of these two factors results to insufficient extreme designs. Graphic designs must be vitally based on tested fundamentals to prevent pitfalls yet updated styles to keep up with the latest trends.
The idea of distance claims associated or things that are related must be placed near to each other. Also, items which are not connected should not be near with each other. The principle of proximity must be applied consistently to attain a good graphic design. An example of applied principle of proximity in graphic design is the relationship between paragraphs and its sub heading. Spacing must be reasonable and ample.
Proper Positioning is the next principle to be considered in graphic designing. The concept of positioning means everything on the page should be visually linked to something else on the web site. Absolutely no nuisance should be placed anywhere.
The next element that is key in repetition in a sense that it builds up consistency rather than redundancy in graphic designs. Consistency in colors, text, fonts, styles and so on. Graphic designers should learn the trick to achieve consistency while maintaining freshness and crisp.
Contrast is referred to as difference and dissimilarities of objects. In graphic design, the element of contrast states that if two items are not the same, make them every different. Color and graphic design is what the viewers first notice when they land on a page. The element of contrast adds interest to the page. Contrast colors in banners, texts, headers and so on.
There are still sub-principles of the basic element in graphic design. It is important for web designers to fully understand the basics before advance applications are used. These fundamentals of graphic design serves as the core of which art and creativity must ideally sprang from.
