Why do you need a website?

There are still people wondering whether their business really needs a website. Or they say: we have a small business firm or running a home based business: should we have a website?

Well, the evidence suggests that if you are not spending time on setting up or improving your website, your competitors certainly will be and the chances are you will be left lagging behind in terms of sales.

Buying and selling on the internet (or e-commerce) has rocketed during recent years. According to online retail group IMRG, monthly online spending is now in the billions.Trade between businesses via the net has also grown. More than half of all British firms now buy goods and services online. It’s not just with direct selling that a website can help your business.

Your website acts as a brochure for your company. It’s your marketing tool, your customer contact portal, and the electronic face of your company. Many people surf the web in the evening when most businesses are closed - which is fine because websites never sleep! A website will allow your business or organization to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Having a website is the equivalent of having an employee working around the clock - even weekends and holidays!

According to the Small Business Administration, small businesses that have websites are averaging $1.07 million more per year in sales than small businesses not online and 50% of Internet sales are from new customers. Having a website significantly improves your customer reach no matter what services or products you offer.

One of the great things about the internet is that it has leveled the playing field when it comes to competing with the big boys."You have one shot at making a good first impression". With a well-designed site, your little operation can project the image and professionalism of a much larger company.

So, the question for many firms now is - can you afford not to have an online presence when your competitors could be increasing their brand awareness, accessibility and profits by having an effective website?

Your website is an important part of your business. Make sure you treat it as such.
