As the name very clearly suggests the background check involves the course of examining the personal history of the person. The process involves consulting the officials and the past commercial records. One can also carry out the background search by checking out the list of the aid of the police. But these days there are many private companies that offer background search and charge some amount of fee for the service.
Basically the background check is done when a person applies for the job especially a delicate one. Most of the employers hire the employees who have a good background and are trust worthy but if the employer has any doubt about the credibility of the person they carry out a background check for the person. The need of the background check becomes more necessary when the job to be carried is a sensitive to a great extent like the jobs which has a close connection with children and the old aged people. These days the people applying for the government jobs also have to undergo a background check screening.
The merits and the reasons why the companies and the government consider background check for the individual or the person required:
1 Most of the civilians of U.S. have a past criminal record. A study shows that 1 among the 32 grown ups have a criminal record in United States.
2 About 2 millions workplace conflicts take place every year.
3 There are about 6 million threats of aggression in the workplace every year.
4 Most of the applications are a fraud which has reached to about 36 percent.
5 About 14 people die every week due to workplace violence.
These are the main factors due to which a company carries out the background check for the applicants. There are many jobs which require a person to work in a sensitive environment especially in the government jobs and this is the main reason for the background check.
There are few employers too who are against the background checking, they believe that the background check is just invasion of privacy. The other reason some of the employers quote that for background check that they may be deprived of good jobs because of their stupid acts they did while they were youth.
The background heck could be irritating for some but there is no single universal data base that facilitates an employer or the company to access the criminal record of the person through out. Even the most reliable NCIC which makes available the criminal data base to the law enforcement agency does not have a complete data base of the criminal record. But the NCIC maintains the data forwarded by the courts and other states.
