Two Part Process for Critical Essay Writing

Critical essays are now the part of course studies at college and university level, so if you are studying in college you should expect this kind of assignment coming to you. Critical essays will not be so difficult to deal with if you have those analytical skills in yourself. You will have to provide a critical reception of the topic along with underlining the positive, negative, weak and strong points of the arguments of the author. This can only be done when you know the procedure for writing critical essay. Now, let’s discuss the procedure in detail.

Before you commence essay writing, you need to first do a home work which is called the pre-writing process.

Pre-writing process:

1- Whatever the article you have chosen to review, it is better that you take the print out of it in the first place.


2- It is not enough to read the article once; you have to read it again and again in order to get the idea and the concept behind the article. Still if you are not able to get the idea then you should consult your teacher in the first place.


3- Read the article and highlight the important information that you would be using in the critical essay writing. In this way, you will be able to save a lot of your time.


4- Based on the highlighted points, you will have to craft all the arguments where you would be highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of an author are. You should have to see it with critical eyes and think on which points you agree with the writer and on which points you disagree.


5- If you want to know how to criticize an argument, you can get the glimpse of the ideas on how to analyze. Go for the peer-reviewed articles and libraries to find critical essays on the same subject.

If you are done with the above told five pre-writing steps then you should now commence writing analytical essay.

1- Get back to your notes and read the highlighted notes, and on the basis of those points make the outline for critical essays. It would be a rough work but will give you an idea on how to organize your critical essays plus it will save a lot of time as well.


2- Keeping in mind the outline for critical essays, make an initial rough draft for analytical essays. The rough draft will then be polished to final analytical essay. The initial rough draft should be consisting of the following elements:

a- Thesis statement in the introduction of the critical essa
b- Argumentation to provide a critical reception to the author’s viewpoint that will be incorporated in the body of the essay.
c- Conclusion

3- Once you are done with your critical essay writing, its time to check it again and again so there are no flaws in the essay.


4- Finally, document all the recourses in the end of the critical essay.
