I’ve read more than enough stories by people who have made and are still making lots of cash online without having personal blogs. And most of these stories are true.
That establishes the fact that having a blog isn't a must for you to make money online. But since a blog is a tool for boosting traffic and income, you'll need one for your online business.
You'll never read or hear claims that a blog reduced someone's traffic or income. Rather, a blog will fetch you even more money (especially in the long term). And that's why blogging is necessary for every online business.
Aside the fact that sharing your knowledge and expertise with others — through a blog — would make you feel fulfilled in a way, there are other reasons why you should have a blog. And these reasons drive home the point that blogs can boost your income.
Here are three reasons why you need a blog for your online business:
1. You'll attract more prospects.
Your blog is like a showroom where you showcase what you offer to people who might be interested in it.
If you make money online by freelancing, you can use a blog as your portfolio. If you’re an affiliate marketer or information marketer, your blog is your catalog. Even if you're just sharing your experience or some gist with other people who might find your stuff valuable, you'll find a blog indispensable. Therefore, using a blog to promote any online or offline business is a smart marketing strategy.
A netpreneur without a blog is like a marketer without a catalog; he'd have to actively run around in search of customers all the time. But with a blog, you can attract lots of potential customers even without actively searching for them.
And they’ll take whatever action you expect from them, even without you telling them. (Remember, the higher your traffic, the more your profits.)
2. A blog builds credibility
For example, I'm a freelance content marketer. And the truth is, I started making more money after I created a blog for my freelance business than I was doing before that. The reason goes without saying; I made more money simply because the blog boosted my credibility, made clients trust me and my skills the more, and portrayed me as an expert writer.
If you promote other people's products as an affiliate marketer, offering valuable content will compel visitors to try out the products you're marketing. If you're an information marketer, having a blog that features the benefits of your information product can convince more buyers to buy your product.
So, by creating a blog, chances are you'll make more money from whatever online business you're into.
3. Running a blog fetches you additional income from multiple channels
Regardless of your main purpose of starting a blog, it can fetch you income from additional channels, such as sales of ad space to advertisers, contextual ads (Adsense, etc.), sponsored posts, affiliate marketing, consulting, and so on.
Because a blog can be monetized through many different methods, you can continue to make money from yours even if your main income stream suddenly stops flowing. (However, get it clearly that building a blog that fetches you profits from many different channels won't happen overnight.)
Bottom line
If you think you can make money online without necessarily running a blog, that's quite possible without doubt. However, if you want to start making big money online sooner than you ever imagined, I strongly recommend that you start a blog.
