There are three major causes of acne. Enlarged oil glands in the skin overproduce oil. Hair follicles get blocked so that they can't release oil. Bacteria, called P. acnes, grows within the hair follicles. No matter which problem causes your acne, you don't want to pop or pick at the acne. This causes scars. You do need to wash your face with mild soap and water. Be gentle so that you don't cause further irritation. Alcohol-based astringents strip your skin of its moisture. Instead, use oil-free or noncomedogenic (won't clog pores) products. An acne facial mask of natural herbs helps exfoliate your skin.
Dealing With Acne
According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), acne affects between 40 and 50 million Americans. Although most people associate acne with teenagers, it can affect men and women well into their 50s, and you can get it on your face, back, and chest. Vivoderm offers an acne facial mask to treat the unsightly acne on your face.
Other Triggers for Acne
Acne can run in families, but it can also be triggered by many other conditions. Pregnancy and hormonal changes may cause an outbreak. Stress is another cause. Using greasy or oily cosmetics blocks the pores. Some medications, steroids or birth control pills, have side effects of triggering a breakout of acne. If you have overactive oil glands or inflammation, you may experience more acne.
Acne Myths
Acne is not caused by poor hygiene. Washing your skin more often can make your acne worse. Many people believe that acne is caused by your diet. There are no scientific studies that find a connection between diet and acne, but a healthy diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains does provide many benefits for your skin. Acne is more than just a cosmetic disease. It can affect your self-esteem.
When to See a Healthcare Provider
Treating your acne on your own with high quality products like an acne facial mask reduces a breakout, but there are times when you may need to contact a dermatologist. If you are embarrassed by your acne or very self-conscious, a healthcare provider can be beneficial for you. According to the AAD, acne is very treatable.
A dermatologist can help reduce scarring, so if you have dark skin and get patches that are even darker after acne heals, you may consider consulting one. Some treatments do tend to be harsher on your skin. Another common treatment is taking antibiotics, but you cannot continue to take them all the time. It's important to find the right products that meet your needs and lifestyle. In any case, a dermatologist can assess your case and assure you that you are taking care of your acne.
Find Natural Products
A gentle skincare routine including an acne facial mask made with all natural products that stimulate your skin and keep the bacteria from growing. Even if you don't have an outbreak right now, it will help prevent one when used regularly as part of a healthy regimen. Make sure you use skincare products as directed, using more will not cure acne any quicker. It will heal. Take care of yourself and try to remember that you are more than your acne.
