Search engines have several ways of ranking your site, such as keyword density. One of the best means of ranking a site is by noting how many backlinks to your site are available online. Backlinks are viewed as votes to your site. The better the site that the link comes from, the better the quality of the link itself, meaning better results for your site. To appear as natural as possible to the search engines, you do want a few of the poorer backlinks just to even things out a bit, as this also helps.

The backlinks that are placed must have relevant anchor text. This is the keyword or keywords that are used to develop the type of relationship that you want to have with your visitors. If you sell crafting supplies, for instance, you might want to use the words "crafts" or "crafting supplies" as your anchor text. This way, when your potential customers search for this subject, they have a better chance of finding you in the search results. In other words, dofollow attributed links are the types of links you want to be connected to your site. If your links are dofollow, then the authority of the site that your backlinks have come from will be passed on to your site, thereby helping your page to rank higher, especially if the site linking to you is high-ranking itself.
