When the Scion FR-S first hit the market a few years ago, driving enthusiasts leaped for joy. Automotive critics from across the globe have raved about the coupe’s razor-sharp driving dynamics. Designed with a few improvements, the 2016 Scion FR-S will be an even more exciting sports car. Not only will prospective buyers be offered more technology, but the new FR-S will also remain one of the best bargains in its class.
Like the outgoing model, the 2016 Scion FR-S will be powered by a high-revving boxer engine. A direct-injection system enables the four-cylinder engine to produce an intoxicating 200 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque. Due to the car’s outstanding power-to-weight ratio, it feels light on its feet at all times. Meanwhile, Dynamic Rev Match technology gives the automatic transmissions an extra degree of excitement. The new FRS is also available with a six-speed manual gearbox. According to The Car Connection, the fun-to-drive sports car can deliver up to 34 mpg on the highway.
On the road, the new FR-S proves to be an extremely nimble driving machine. In fact, the budget-minded coupe can handle better than many of the high-end sports cars on the market. Like a traditional sports car, the 2016 Scion FR-S uses a rear-wheel-drive platform. Equipped with a responsiveness anti-lock braking system, the FR-S is the perfect track machine for weekend warriors.
This is the kind of ride that tends to attract a crowd of admirers. A sloping roof and an ultra-sporty grille further enhance the appeal of the new FR-S. All versions of the FR-S come standard with a performance wheel and tire package. Scion also offers two new paint colors for the FR-S: Ablaze and Oceanic.
The inside of the 2016 Scion FR-S is loaded with more creature comforts than ever before. The well-bolstered seats are designed to deliver hours of relaxation. Unlike in some of the cramped sports cars on the road, the vast majority of drivers can fit comfortably behind the wheel of the FR-S. In fact, several automotive forums actually recommend the FR-S to tall driving enthusiasts. In an effort to enhance the driver’s visibility, a rear-view camera now comes standard. Some of the other standout features include an improved audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, and a key-less entry system. A seven-inch touch-screen display has also been neatly integrated into the dash.
In terms of overall safety, the 2016 Scion FR-S blows past the competition. Stamped with a five-star safety rating, the FR-S provides unmatched crash protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also chose it as a Top Safety Pick.
