You want to shine like a star in your wedding photos, and the right makeup will play a big role in that. For most women, a professional makeup artist is not a necessity. These are the top DIY wedding makeup tips you need to know to get a perfect result.

Wedding makeup is 80% face, 20% lips, eyes and brows. Airbrushing foundation will give a flawless coverage that won't even look like makeup, just perfect glowing skin-it's what every bride wants, and should have, on her wedding day. Airbrushing is also the best method of applying contouring and highlighting for wedding makeup, as it has the most seamless application.

Steer clear of red lips. Not only do neutral and pink colors look more subtle, but red lips are more likely to kiss-off and smudge. They can also make teeth look yellow. (gasp) The one thing I know is that brides want to look like the best version of themselves and they don't want to have so much makeup on that they look like a complete stranger.

Highlighting is very important for a wedding look, and with airbrush makeup you can get two levels of highlighting. Firstly, blending shades with the actual foundation can create tone and highlight areas without adding shine or shimmer. For places like cheekbones, eyebrows and decolletage where a bit of shimmer is needed, then there are subtle shimmer highlights available for use with airbrushes that go on seamlessly.

Many brides may opt for a facial to prepare to look their best on the big day. It is recommended that any facials be done at least 2 weeks prior to the ceremony. This will help avoid any breakouts on your wedding day. There are a few more things that should be done before the wedding day as you prepare your look.

Afternoon light is much hasher than morning light, so you can be a bit more strong in your color choices. You can use a semi-matte foundation and your skin will still look natural. Eye makeup can be a little more dramatic in the morning, but still be in the natural tones. Brown eyeliner, taupe shadows and a black-brown mascara will create a beautiful look for an afternoon bride. A half-set of lashes can really enhance your eyes.

Makeup has a tendency to rub off on other's shoulders when your guests are hugging you after the wedding ceremony. When hugging, extend your chin upwards so your neck is resting on them, instead of your cheek brushing against their chest or shoulder. The hug is just as intimate, but protects your makeup as well.

Using airbrush wedding makeup gives a completely even base to work with. A clear canvas, so to speak. This enables the makeup artist to really get a flawless looking complexion and will make the all-essential contouring even easier. Contouring is a must for bridal makeup simply because there are so many photographs being taken on the day and without it a bride's face will look dimensionless in the pictures.
