A lot of people have constantly been asking, what are created diamonds? More importantly, are created diamonds just as precious as real diamonds? Simply stated, a created or a synthetic lab grown diamond is a gemstone that’s produced from a carbon that is placed into a chamber and subjected to tremendous temperature and pressure. The mix and shades of the colors of the diamonds can also be altered depending on the kind of impurities that you put in. These synthetic lab grown diamonds are not considered to be as valuable as real diamonds because they are perceived to be of lower value since they are man made.

Nevertheless, the quality and the consistency of the diamonds have become exquisitely brilliant that the naked eye can barely tell the difference between a real one and a lab grown diamond. Since these synthetic diamonds are virtually undetectable, the De Beers, who hold the monopoly of the diamond market, have created an etching scheme on each of their diamonds to distinguish the natural one from the synthetic one. Obviously, the real diamonds are being challenged by a formidable foe in the manifestation of synthetic diamonds.

Without this kind of marking scheme, the high prices of real diamonds will be deflated and devalued due to the influx of artificially made diamonds in the market. This would have tremendously impacted the demand for real diamonds.

Essentially, all diamonds, be it man-made or real, only have artificial prices. The prices the the De Beers have put into their mined diamonds have constantly altered the pricing methodology of diamonds. The truth is, diamonds aren’t rare. What makes it rare is the perceived value that we humans put into it that makes it really pricey. Thankfully, with breakthroughs in science and technology, we were able to create a replacement for real diamonds.

Lab diamonds have numerous advantages over real diamonds. Quite frankly, it even possesses the same properties of the real diamonds. With that in mind, it is surely going to be part of the future not just as jewelry but as part of our technology as well. What’s really great about created diamonds is that you can alter the look of the diamond based on what you prefer. Impurities are added into the mix of the carbon in order to come up with a diamond that has different colors or shades. With this process, even the rarest of all diamonds can be made and there will hardly be any difference.
