Exciting Release of a new iPhone - iPhone 4GS/5

Apple and rumours go hand in hand prior to release, there were claims that the iPhone 4 glass rear case would be ditched and a completely new all aluminum or stainless steel back would take its place incorporating a new antennae.

So… with the release of the iPhone 4 in 2010 as usual the speculation and anticipation of the next apple phone was quickly mounting with the public. iPhone 5? 4GS? Nobody knew for sure but everybody liked to guess. Apple and rumours go hand in hand prior to release, there were claims that the iPhone 4 glass rear case would be ditched and a completely new all aluminum or stainless steel back would take its place incorporating a new antennae. Perhaps Apple would release a low-tech approach to the phone or maybe a nano phone, which worried technophiles, as components would surely be sacrificed and prices lower so that any one could be a part of the iPhone “club”.

Here is a brief timeline of the iPhone major releases:
June 29^th 2007- Original iPhone released
July 11^th 2008- iPhone 3G released
June 19^th 2009- iPhone 3Gs released
June 24^th 2010- iPhone 4 released
October 4^th 2011- iPhone 4S released

More rumours included talk of near field communication (NFC), which would enable the phone as a digital wallet and the user could make payment just by putting it close to a digital payment terminal. Features which enabled the sending and receiving of data to and from the i4/5 from a Mac without a cable.

The public, as always were clear about what they wanted from the phone and expectations included a HD video output to watch movies or podcasts and YouTube as this was not available on the current iPhone 4.

More memory- even though 32gb is a massive amount of space for a phone it seems people always want more and SD slots have been suggested by the consumer but are unlikely in reality to be included in the next product. Battery power is always a big want and users are hoping that with the extra burden of a potential dual core CPU on the power usage more capacity will be needed on the next phone to keep all of the apps running for longer.

There were expected to be a myriad of extra features and so when the new iPhone was released last week what did we actually get?

An iPhone 4S

The dimensions and overall look are the same with a little extra weight, the screen resolution and size are the same, some eagerly anticipated extra memory with a 64GB version an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording and face detection which is a good improvement, a more advanced 1ghz a5 dual core processor, Bluetooth 4.0 instead of 2.0 and an extra hour of 3g talk time so a slightly bigger battery.

Is all of this enough of an advance for the iPhone user? Probably not- as for most of us the exciting release of a new iPhone only marks the beginning of a long and speculative wait for the next.
