Huntington Beach, March 20th, 2012 – A new report from ABC 7 is trying to draw attention to a growing problem California and other states are facing. The report points to over $6 billion in unclaimed money that is being held by the California treasury. And California is only one state, with Michigan and Ohio holding a billion dollars and Texas holding two billion. With so much money in unclaimed property, California, like other states, is doing what it can to alert the public to the problem. It turns out the current efforts aren't enough.

The ABC 7 report was published as a way to alert the large population of Los Angeles to the problem. Los Angeles represents one large area where a good number of people may be owed unclaimed property. This unclaimed property can come from uncashed paychecks, unclaimed insurance claims and estates, forgotten about bank accounts and safe deposit boxes and many more. With so much money being owed, any Californian could be the recipient of unclaimed property.

The ABC report does point to several ways California is trying to alert the public to the growing problem. Fairs and events, radio and TV announcements and even newspaper prints are various PR techniques California has put into play, but the results are less than spectacular. It appears that the public just doesn't know the money exists. It seems crazy because California is in a financial crisis and many Californians could probably use a supplement to their income. Will the ABC report make a difference and point Californians towards the unclaimed money problem? Only time will tell.

One database has emerged to help with the growing problem, not only in California but all over the country. Cash Unclaimed offers a free unclaimed property search that will conduct a thorough search of the government treasuries from all 50 states and several Federal government accounts to reveal if the person does indeed have money waiting. Experts hope the database can help to alleviate the unclaimed money problem California and the other states face.

About CashUnclaimed.com: As one of the largest databases for conducting unclaimed money searches, Cash Unclaimed helps American citizens search the state and Federal government treasury accounts where billions in unclaimed property is being held.
