Herbs of various types have been grown everywhere in the world for thousands of years. No matter what kind of climate you live in, there are herbs that can easily be grown in your area. This is a simple type of garden that you can start regardless of your level of experience, and in this article we'll be covering some methods for getting the most out of your herb gardening efforts.

If you want to start your own herb garden, you need to figure out which herbs you want to grow the most. There are so many herbs out there to choose from so it will serve you well to start out with a plan. You can start off by making a list of herbs that you'd like to have, perhaps to use in your cooking. Then you just need to investigate their own needs as well as which ones are able to grow the best in your climate as well as how much space you've got available to you. Try to grow the herbs that match in terms of their need for sunlight, space and water. If you would like herbs that are good for cooking, a great place to start is with basil, fennel, garlic, mint, parsley and rosemary.

You will need to process your herbs to last over time if you grow them in mass amounts. You can dry the herbs and they will have quite a long shelf life. You should look into the best methods for drying specific herbs, but in general the best time to dry them is just before flowering. They should be washed in cold water to remove soil, insects and other debris. You then will need to let the water evaporate. Either of your kitchen ovens will work fine to dry the herbs. To keep them as fresh as possible, you will then put them in a container that will not let air in.

If you're still not sure you want to have an herb garden, take into account the benefits of growing your own herbs. Many individuals who garden extensively have often remarked that growing herbs is the easiest and most rewarding type of garden they have. You can enjoy herbs on many different levels - in your cooking, in teas, and for their intriguing scents. If you only have a small space, herbs will still flourish well. Many herbs also have natural defenses against pests, which means there's less need to worry about spraying them. After experiencing your first successful herb garden, you will love the convenience and the money you save because you won't have to buy expensive fresh herbs at the market.

Your herb garden can be a project concerning the whole family, or if need be, you can do it by yourself. Beginners should start with an herb garden, but growing herbs still gives lots of satisfaction to experienced gardeners. A tradition that anyone can enter into at anytime, is growing plants, of which herbs are some of the best liked.

One more detail to remember is avoid using poisons to eliminate animal pests. Other sorts of animals will consume the poison and the diseased mouse or rat and therefore might also be killed. There are plenty of alternative methods for ridding yourself of unwanted pests.
