There is a sense that our world is growing smaller, but there goes hand in hand with the idea that our world is getting more and more dangerous. Things that could be taken for granted thirty years ago can no longer be.
Thirty years ago, all a warehouse needed to be safe was a night watchman with a torch and an onsite hut. He would make his rounds a couple of times at night and the rest of the time, he would be in the hut watching TV or listening to his radio. Everything was considered safe back then. Maybe he had a couple of guard dogs that he had to feed, but crime was less of an issue, and he was often there just for show. The most excitement he would have had was to take care of the occasional drunk who might otherwise stagger in to the site and cause himself some harm.
Sadly, that has all changed, and not for the best. Where years ago a night watchman was enough, now that is nearly not enough. The criminals are no longer on the outside of a business looking in. They are on the inside hoping they are not caught.
Do not get me wrong, 99% of employees are good and hard working; however, there is the 1% that can cause a lot of trouble. You cannot turn your back on those people.
Happily, there is an answer. Technology also has not stood still, and developments of the area of photography as well as communications. It has made way for a wide range of hidden cameras that can and do act as security cameras for business.
Working in tandem with the established security cameras that everyone can see (that act as the deterrent), these cameras can be placed in the places where a business is most vulnerable. Hidden cameras also have the added bonus of giving honest employees added protection.
Imagine a petrol station with added hidden cameras over the pay area, the criminals know about the obvious camera and make a point to not be seen on that camera, but they may not know about the hidden one.
There is also the other side of business that no one really likes to deal with and that is staff theft. No one likes to think that their own staff may be stealing from him or her, but people are fallible and it does happen! Most estimates put staff theft at between one and five percent of employees. Just a few (maybe as low as one) hidden camera placed in the right place can either catch the staff member in the act, or can stop the thief cold in his or her tracks.
Department stores also have problems with shoplifting. Most people will go into the changing rooms and put the garments on under their existing clothing. The clever ones have found ways to disable the security devices. By having a few hidden security cameras (with appropriate notices about them as some places require) can stop shoplifters in their tracks, and aid the company to recoup the losses to the criminal.
There is also one other major benefit to business, even if the security camera never catches anyone in the act, and that is the insurance companies today want to see that companies are taking such things very seriously. They encourage the installing of modern technology to protect their assets and not just rely on the insurance company to pay out every time. The result of having the technology and having it work is that the insurance premiums will go down and may be go down far enough to cover the cost of the equipment over the life of the system.
An example of this was a computer store that was broken into, the owner got a text from his burglar alarm saying a break in was underway so he activated a hidden camera mounted on a computer, which started relaying the pictures via Skype to the local police. All the time the thief thought the computer was inactive.
Imagine his horror when half an hour after the Burglary, the Police were at his door with a search warrant and pictures of him stealing the computer. The computer shop got everything back from the stunned Burglar and thankful Police.
Spy Camera technology is being used by business for the right reasons and they are here to stay. Security cameras for business dramatically increase the security and profitability of any business that is using them. These cameras are able to catch the dishonesty in any workplace where trust and ethics are questionable. Hidden cameras play a valuable role in finding lost items, catching unsavory crooks, and protecting personal and private property. Everyone feels safe knowing that safety is just a few feet away.
