New Year. The first thing that comes to mind is firecrackers and fireworks. It's all about explosion, whether it's designed to set off in the sky or on the ground. Call it insane. Call it tradition. Call it whatever you want, but you can't keep it from happening, and this is the reason why we thought it is timely to come up with a short list of watches that can either survive explosions or help the wearer go away from it. At the very least, they can protect the wrist -- for these watches are made of exceptional materials, not to mention the aesthetic benefits and the timekeeping function. In our search, we came across these watches that are featured in anime movies.
Before you raise your eyebrows, these watches are actually in existense with the same logo and brand as the real version. The makers of these animated movies must have had their own reason why they feature these watches, but for all intents and purposes, they represent precision, style and durability.
Rex Chronograph
Deunan Knute and Briareos Hecatonchires wear this timepiece in the movie Appleseed, a film about a female soldier who goes out of her way to find out how to restore the bioroids' reproductive capabilities. Actually, Deunan and Briareos, the lead characters in the story, have standard-issue watches, but they left them in favor of Rex Chronograph. Actually, Rex Chronograph will already be outdated by then since the film is set 200 years from now. But there is something about the watch that makes them -- the creator of the movie and the protagonists themselves -- go crazy. Rex Chronograph, first off, is a precise timekeeping tool, not to mention its functions as a calendar, a stopwatch and an instrument that measures distance and fuel consumption. But the real selling point here is the band or bracelet. It is made of vulcanized rubber which is resistant even to the strongest explosion caused by firecrackers.
OLED Watch
When it comes to watch display, nothing beats OLED (or Organic LED) watches. They are known for having powerful and efficient display the same quality as cell phones'. In the movie Appleseed, OLED watches are used to make the team perform in perfect unison. With its ability to measure time in tenths and hundredths of a second, OLED watches provide the most accurate time. Although it looks like you're overreacting, you can use the OLED watch when you are lighting firecrackers. It tells you how much time you have so you can run away from it. Aside from the exceptional display, this watch is lovely when it comes to style. The OLED watches in Appleseed have a display that is set at 45 degrees. Not only do they look great but they also save the wearer time and energy. He doesn't have to bend his arm or wrist which will take a few milli-seconds. In situations that demand immediate action, a few seconds count.
DKNY 1390
Actually the combination of Rex Chronograph and OLED watches forms a hybrid watch called DKNY 1390. This rugged watch boast style and features similar but not limited to the above timepieces. The design is quite manly, giving off an impression that the wearer is ready to spring into action. The white digital numbers against blue background, graphite accent stopwatch controls and a silicon polymer bracelet. These are the distinctive signs of the brand, and since DKNY 1390 has a big semblance to the other two, it offers the same features such as hundredth of a second chronograph and ultra-durable case and strap. That means, even you are not able to run away, just flip your watch toward the explosion and your wrist is safe from harm.
