You know how they say that no two fingerprints are exactly alike? Well, that goes the same way for business cards too, primarily because a business card will always be unique to you and will be for your own use only, at least not counting company business cards and stuff like that. Even though business card printing makes use of the same templates over and over again, each print batch is always different from the rest, if not in design then in the name and details printed inside. In a way, you can say that with business cards, you have your own commercial fingerprint which would leave a mark on businesses, clients, and customers one way or another.
Just like a fingerprint is a product of touching something, business cards are also a way of getting in touch with other people like potential clients. By distributing your business card you are making sure to spread your name around the professional community, and in a way, you are touching the minds of all of the different people who encounter you and your business card. Also, just like you try to avoid touching dirty and nasty stuff with your hands, you should also try to avoid sending out your business card to the wrong people who would not use your information for any good purpose.
On the other hand, fingerprints are also incriminating evidence in case of criminal situations like murder, robbery, and theft. As for business cards, they are also incriminating because they can tell people a lot of things about you underneath all the contact information. Clients and customer will be able to tell if you are good or not— at the very least they will get a hint— just by observing the design, the condition, the typographical errors, and all of the other details regarding your card. Hypothetically, if you are smart, you would not leave your fingerprints behind in a crime scene, so take extra care with how you make your business card and whom to distribute them too.
Lastly, let us go back to the very basic nature of a fingerprint. A fingerprint is your very own identity and it is unique only to you, which is practically the same deal with business cards. Business cards represent you in professional transactions just as your very own fingerprints will represent you in important transactions like voting and applying for official papers. Business cards can either help you flourish or damn you, so you better be smart right from the moment you decide to have them printed up to when you decide to use them.
Business card printing is not simply buying small pieces of card that contains your name and contact number. It is building up an identity for yourself that you would want other people to know you as. It may not seem like it at first, but business cards are way more important than they look, so the next time, try giving a little bit more thought and effort into them.
