All postcards, be it for marketing or for personal communication have five seconds to convince readers that they are worth reading. This is a crucial concept in postcard printing since ignoring those initial five seconds means increasing the rates of failure for those color postcards. In this guide, I am going to teach you how to make those first five seconds count for your postcard printing. Just follow the key design strategies below to make this happen for your own color postcards.
a. Use a color scheme that stands out – People tend to be quickly judgemental about color postcards, especially the ones that look like they are just unsolicited marketing junk mail. To prevent your postcards from being classified as junk mail in the initial five seconds of postcard exposure, you must always use a color scheme that stands out.
That is right! With a glaringly different color scheme, most readers will take a second look and see what makes that particular full color postcard different. Instead of just a white paper background with full color inks, having other more exotic colors such as a charcoal type or sand type paper color and gold or silver inks can make a lot of difference. The more it stands out, the more people will look at your postcards intently first and not judge it too much as the same old commercial postcard print.
b. Compose a short headline that “says it all” – Another important thing to do to make those initial five seconds count for your postcards would be to compose a short headline that says it tall. While I know it is hard sometimes to compose something really good, it is best to target writing just one line for your marketing postcards. Beyond that, you should always try to be concise, short but adequately detailed with your full color postcard headline. The more it “says it all” in one line, the better. Hire professionals if you really can get this to work for you.
c. Say the rest of your message in an astounding photograph – Of course, to make all those five seconds really impressive for the reader, you should always choose an astounding photograph to hook people in and maybe even cause them to keep your postcards. By using professional level full color postcards that really have artistic value, you can add more prestige to your postcards, enough for it to be a novelty item. So make sure that you say the rest of your message in postcards using an astounding photograph.
d. Tell readers to read more at the back – Of course, do not forget to tell readers that there is more at the back of your postcards. For the first few seconds, people will state at the front of your postcards before going to the back. TO make sure that they really go and read the back section, you should explicitly state for readers to read at the back by printing little instructions at the front. This ensures that your WHOLE marketing message is read and you did not waste time and money in postcard printing.
e. Make those finishing touches with impressive quality prints – Finally, to really make that first five seconds count, you should always make those finishing touches with impressive quality prints. It is a subtle effect, but full color postcards with high quality materials will always impress readers. They will think that the postcard is worth more of their time and attention just because it looked more expensive to print. They will notice this in the first five seconds, so it best to deliver quality with your postcards.
Great! Don’t forget all these pointers okay? These should help you make all those five seconds of initial exposure count and let your postcards impress those readers enough for them to read everything your postcards have to offer. Good Luck!
