There are a variety of tools which can be utilised in order to understand the popularity of keyphrases on the internet. In the early stages of SEO for a site, it is important to determine which keyphrases to utilise in order to boost the sites traffic. Two key aspects of this are the relevance of keyphrases and the popularity of these as search terms.
Relevance
The relevance of a term relates entirely to what your site is intending to offer. If for example you are running a site which sells clothing then you will want to build up a list of keyphrases which relate to this. Terms such as cheap trainers and designer tracksuits may be of use. It is important not to be too general or too obscure with these terms as this can make them too competitive or too unpopular respectively. This is where trends are important.
Trends and Phrase Popularity
Once you have your list of keyphrases you can determine the popularity of these keyphrases in search engine searches. There are a few ways to do this keyword tools can be found on the web which allow you to discover how regularly people are searching for these term as well as giving you t=other related keyphrases which you could adopt.
As any website designer is aware, you can use trending application to show how keyphrases rank throughout the year. This can allow you to determine whether search terms are seasonal or year round as well as whether they are likely to remain popular. These can also show you how events can correlate with increased searches. This can allow you to understand how to utilise search trends to best suit you, such as by posting articles around events which are tied into your area of the market. This is a technique often employed by SEO experts to boost traffic.
As a result your understanding of the target market is improved and you can make a start on boosting your rankings and potential traffic.
