Whenever we save some data, it needs to be stored in a database where from the data can easily be accessed, updated or retrieved as per the requirement. We work with user mailboxes in Exchange Server for accessing and email messaging purposes. But, we never think of the database that Exchange Server uses to store the data and email messages. EDB files are the database files that keep the user mailboxes of MS Exchange Server. As a user, whenever you check mailbox, the MS Exchange Server performs a check in the EDB files for that particular email messages required by the user.

It locates the required email message and does a restoration operation and finally presents the message to the user. In other words, the EDB files act as the pointers to the server to locate and find the emails whenever you try to find any required email on your MS Outlook. Though these files have number of facilities, but not safe from the heat of corruption and often get corrupted by some means. These database files may get corrupted due to several reasons like errors in the physical hard drive, jet errors, errors in file size, failure of exchange server due to improper shutdown or virus attack.

Therefore, when corruption occurs in the EDB files, users face the worst circumstances and may not be able to access notes, contacts, journals, emails and other types of data from the mailbox on Exchange Server. Being regular user of MS Outlook, you would be in a helpless situation where you are obstructed to access your important emails on your mailbox. Any such problematic condition can halt the entire tasks of an organization and could delay in delivering project. Further, this kind of situation also hampers the whole communication channel resulting in a disgusting situation.

when EDB files corrupt or damaged, all the data become inaccessible and the server starts displaying various error messages and logs events that clearly indicates corruption in the database file. Some of the common errors that usually encountered are as follows:

1.Corrupted headers
2.Deleted mailboxes
3.Jet Engine Errors
4.Exchange Server Error Code 528
5.Duplicate Keys (Identifiers)
6.Unable to initialize the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service.
7.Error -528 initializing the Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store database.

To overcome the corruption situation, all you need to do is to follow a procedure that converts EDB files into PST files. The conversion process retrieves the data from corrupted EDB database files and converts them to usable PST files so that the users can access the data. Microsoft has delivered some useful software like Exmerge.exe or Eseutil.exe to perform EDB to PST conversion.

But the problem with these tools is that these are limited to minor corruption and moderately fails to treat severe corruption issues. For those circumstances, there could no better option rather than choosing third party software which will be able to handle all corruption issues.

Kernel for Exchange Server Recovery proficiently repairs all corrupted, damaged and lost EDB files and converts them to corresponding PST files. It is also possible to recover deleted emails and all other user mailbox items when information store is not mounted. With integrated scanning process, this tool scans the entire database and rebuilds new usable database without distorting the tables and query interfaces. With EDB to PST tutorial guide, this tool is easy to use and novice persons can implement it.

The author of this article is a master of evaluating the performance of convert EDB to PST tools and utilities. The articles the author has written on data recovery issues act as the EDB to PST tutorial for the e-learners.
