A healthy and smooth skin can be one of your body's best features. The number of skincare products is increasing as more and more people aspire to have healthy and young-looking skin. Not only should you invest in the right skincare products, you should also know how to take care of your skin. Below are some tips to follow:
Know what type of skin you have
The main aspect of taking care of your skin is to understand your skin type. Your skin may belong to the normal, dry, oily, sensitive or combination skin type. Knowing your own skin type can help you choose the best skin care products for you from among the many skin care products sold in the market.
Tailor your skin care regimen to your skin type
Consider your skin type first when adopting a skincare routine. For people with normal skin, go for a gentle foaming facial wash and use a lotion made especially for normal skin types as your moisturizer. If you have skin that tends to be naturally oily, you can get the excess oil off your skin with an astringent cleanser after washing. A water-based lotion can be used as a moisturizer for oily skin, and any excess residue can be dabbed after application. If you have dry skin, use a cream-based cleaner and lotion. For combination skin, use a light foaming facial wash upon rising in the morning, and a creamy facial wash is the best choice for nighttime use. Beginning with a hypoallergenic cleanser and followed by a fragrance-free moisturizer or lotion, people with sensitive skin should always make sure that all skincare products used are hypoallergenic.
Follow a healthy diet plan
What you eat affects the health and appearance of your skin. Because of this, it is important that you follow a healthy diet. Include sufficient fruits and vegetables in your daily meals and control your intake of processed foods.
Keep yourself hydrated
To avoid skin dryness and maximize moisture, always keep yourself hydrated. Therefore, drinking eight glasses of water on a daily basis is absolutely important. If you regularly drink caffeinated drinks, then you might have to drink more water. Furthermore, it is important to drink liquids to rehydrate the body after a long and hard workout.
Protect your skin from the sun
The sun can be detrimental to your skin. Skin cancer is caused by too much exposure to the sun. It can also cause the skin to dry out, which will then become red and inflamed. Therefore, it is important that you limit your exposure to the sun or protect your skin from it. Always use a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF) to protect your skin when going out. Additionally, find a nice light sunscreen which is expressly formulated for facial use. Do not use sunscreen for the body for facial use because it may cause oiliness and breakout. You may also wear some protective clothing such as pants, long-sleeved tops, and wide-brimmed hats for extra skin protection.
