One of the most exciting things in postcard printing is actually designing it yourself. Many people shudder at the thought of designing even cheap postcards because for one thing, they may look well, cheap. But little do they know that it is a very stimulating and rewarding activity.
Let us start with the ultimate decision point in any design endeavor. First, you have to decide whether to add non-text materials such as photos, clip arts, or logos. Are words enough to convey your message? How would a picture enhance the overall attractiveness of your postcards? These are legitimate questions and they require legitimate answers. Read on and know how to choose the right photo, image, graphic for your postcard printing.
Step 1: Identify your purpose.
What is your ultimate purpose in postcard printing? Where will they be distributed? Are they part of your direct mail marketing campaign? When will you send them? Finally, who are your target clients? These questions will help you create the design. In choosing the photos or graphics for your design, always consider the kind of response you would like to draw out from your customers.
Step 2: Make it extremely Interesting!
In choosing a graphic for your design, always remember that you want to persuade clients. If this is not being achieved, look for another photo, graphics or clip art. You want a professional looking design that adds distinction and eye appeal. Veer away from generic photos or clip arts because it runs smack of unimaginativeness.
Step 3. Consider the image's interplay with color.
According to research, much of the human reaction to color is subliminal and consumers are generally unaware of the persuasive effects of color. Every color elicits some unconscious reaction to consumers. For instance, black conveys seriousness and authority. Blue on the other hand, reflects reliability. But note that blue dampens appetite so if you are in a restaurant business better forego that particular hue.
Now that you have an idea of colors, try to make your image, photo or clip art blend with the overall color scheme. Just be careful not to overdo it because it might hurt you more. A carefree use of any color would produce an image of cheap postcards.
Balance is the key. Always remember that when choosing a photo, graphics or clip art, you have to strike a balance in the overall design. The photo should help and not prevent the message from being understood. It has to complement whatever information was given by the postcard. By following these steps, you can create a postcard that not only looks good but also fulfills its purpose of effectively advertising your business.
