Creating passive income streams does not mean you have to quit your job. Actually, many people all around the world have found a myriad of ways to generate a side income, or extra income in addition to what they already earn at their 9 to 5 jobs.
For many, even just an extra $50 to $100 a month can do so much for their lives. It can help pay for bills, gas, food, clothes, debt, and even be put towards a fund for something like a vacation or education. Many people even use this extra cash to donate, which is always a good thing.
The first step to creating passive income streams while still working a full-time job is to understand that it will indeed take a little bit of work upfront. It may be difficult to find the extra time necessary to setup an automatic income, but it is mandatory. Therefore, conscious effort must be taken to reduce the amount of time wasted on activities, such as watching television or reading the newspaper, which can be time used to instead setup various passive income streams. There are a number of activities you can cut out during the day, but remember, you should still enjoy life during this time; you don't have to cut out everything that you want to do, although you should want to work towards earning an extra income.
In addition, I'm sure there are times while at work where you have the chance to work on, or at least think about your potential side income ventures. During your lunch hour is probably the best time of the day, as well as during your 15 minutes breaks in the mornings and afternoons. That being said, please do not mix your 9 to 5 job with work from your side income. If abused, you could potentially be fired for not doing what you're supposed to do at work. Please use your common sense.
After you've found the time to work for yourself and your potential income streams, the next step is to determine exactly how you want to earn money on the side. There are many ways to do this, some of which require little to no work (after the upfront work), and others that require a minimal on-going amount of work, which can easily be done on the weekends.
For example, writing articles for websites such as eHow.com, Busika.com, InfoBarrel.com, Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com are great ways to earn a passive income by working hard now, and letting the money come in later. These "article publishing websites" allow you to write articles that will earn you money based on the number of clicks on the ads that show up along with your article. On eHow.com, for example, there are authors who earn upwards of $1000 a month without having to write any more articles. The existing articles that they have written in the past continue to earn them cash month after month after month.
Another example of a way to earn a passive income is by selling products on Ebay. More work will be required from packaging and shipping items, however if you create a system so you only have to post new items and ship once a week, it can be a lucrative form of a side income for you.
A more difficult technique, but one that can be far more profitable than any other technique, is to write an eBook, or create a similar kind of digital, electronic information product that can automatically be delivered to customers online. It's important that it's an electronic product, because transactions can then be completed without your presence. This technique is much more difficult because it does take more time and effort to select a particular niche or market, start a blog so that you can establish yourself as an expert and gain a loyal following, or find other people in your niche/market to help you. That being said, if done correctly, you can easily earn upwards of 6 figures a year for almost no amount of work, after your electronic information product business is setup properly.
To reiterate, probably the most important thing, no matter which method you choose to earn a passive income, is being disciplined enough to work on these projects at the beginning. Remember though: "the harder you work, the luckier you become."
