Health care has always been a fantastic field to get into. And with recent changes, this field is set to explode again. Many jobs and careers in this field will be virtually free from any worries regarding the recession or layoffs. One of the most in demand jobs is that of a registered nurse.
What does that mean for you? If you are already a nurse, then you can pretty much forget about ever being laid off or having to worry about finding another job like any others. If you are not a nurse, and are considering going to nursing school, then this article is for you. You'll learn a few important factors when choosing your nursing school, so you can have the best possible chances of success.
An accredited nursing school has many advantages over one that isn't. The classes have been judged as acceptable to the standardized nursing curriculum. Also you'll still need to pass a qualifying exam to get your license, going to an accredited school will help you a great deal. Two of the main bodies to check for are the NLNAC and the CCNE. Either one is fine, but both is ideal.
Another thing to check for is to see how many students pass the national certification exam on the first try. This is an indication of how well the school does at preparing the students for a nursing career. You should always check for a few years back, to make sure they are consistent. Any school where over seventy five percent of students pass the exam on the first try is a pretty good school.
Tuition is another big issue. There are many options for tuition assistance, grants, scholarships and student loans. Obviously, student loans should be your last option, as you don't want to have a mountain of debt when you are just starting your career. Find out if the school has any other options besides this. You'd be surprised how many scholarship and grant programs there are out there if you look hard enough.
Making sure the school you're looking at has the curriculum you're interested in is also important. For example, if you'd like to become a surgical nurse, then make sure the school in question has classes that can support this. Some schools have this, while others don't, so it's important to shop around.
In short, becoming a nurse is a great career decision. The jobs are in demand, and you'll rarely have to worry about any economic conditions. The only thing you need to do is find the right school and get started. Before you know it, you'll be a registered nurse making some serious cash.
