Planning the cost of a wedding can prove to be a difficult process, it has been suggested.
Loved-up couples looking to get married are likely to find the cost of their big day to be a significant one, if a new report is anything to go by.
Research carried out by Choice reveals that the cost of hiring a reception venue often rises if its owners are told it is for a wedding rather than a birthday, even if it has the same number of guests.
Indeed, such costs can be twice as high when renting out a room for a wedding reception compared to a birthday party.
The study also shows that when doing a wedding some photographers will insist on being paid a daily rate, compared to working hourly for birthday functions - and with one professional revealed to be charging an additional $2,205, such costs could end up being placed on couples' credit cards.
Overall, the cost of tying the knot was shown to stand at an average of $33,350.
However, Australian Bridal Service managing director Glenn Findlay points out that weddings place more pressure on suppliers and organisers and as such more attention to detail and services is required.
"Get it wrong and you are wrecking a bride's life," he states.
"Mention it's a wedding and the price immediately jumps, which makes it difficult for couples who are trying to plan their special day on a budget," Elise Davidson, spokesperson for Choice, points out.
Those planning a wedding were advised to have a clear idea in their heads of how much they are prepared to spend before splashing out any money.
She adds that would-be brides and grooms should "always be sure to shop around".
Indeed, taking the time to compare accounts could also help people make the most of their finances in the build-up to getting married.
And with Christmas right around the corner, those looking for tips for saving as December 25th approaches could be interested in guidance from Cheapskates.com.au owner Cath Armstrong who told the Sunday Times that there is little point splashing out major sums of money on food and decoration for the sake of tradition.
