NFL Mock Draft 1

Order based on NFL Power Rankings. As season goes on, it will be based on standings.

1. Rams- Michael Oher OT Ole Miss- Rams need a full makeover now that Scott Linehan is gone. Oher is a nice way to rebuild the offensive line especially with Pace turning 34

now.

2. Lions- Michael Johnson DE Georgia Tech- The Lions can’t rush the Quarterback. With another top 5 selection, why not get something going on their D-line. They could have had Gaines Adams instead of Calvin Johnson but I won’t pounce on that since Calvin looks solid.

3. Bengals- Rey Maualuga ILB USC- The Bengals need to help out their defense. They need a DT more desperately but no one fits the bill. They may take George Selvie but I think Maualuga gets the nod here to be paired up with rookie Keith Rivers.

4. Chiefs- Matt Stafford QB Georgia- This looks like a lock right now. Even though Huard has proved he can manage the offense, they need a long term solution and Stafford looks to be way above all other QBs (including Tebow).

5. Raiders- Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech- Al Davis loves the flashy players that tear up the combine.

Well with the Raiders need for a WR and their past history this seems like a perfect fit. With the Big 3 of Russell, Run DMC, and Crabtree, the Raiders could be a great offense for years to come.

6. Texans- Taylor Mays S USC- Houston’s front-7 is solid, but its secondary is not. Dunta Robinson has been out and Jacque Jones isn’t any good. They need secondary help and Mays could be just what the Texans need. He can hit hard and manage the back end of the secondary nicely.

7. Dolphins- George Selvie DE USF- The Dolphins need a hybrid LB position since Taylor is gone. Selvie fits

the bill as he is on the top of the NCAA in sacks this year. He could bring an added punch to the Miami front-7.

8. Browns- Vontae Davis CB Illinois- Does Cleveland have a secondary? Not really. Davis could be a nice piece to building that secondary. It’s ashame that Davis doesn’t make it down a few spots because he could be in the same division, or even the same team as his brother, Vernon.

9. Falcons- Myron Rolle S FSU- Atlanta’s corners have played fine so far but their safeties have not. Milloy is getting older and Erik Coleman isn’t playing that well. Rolle can be the LaRon Landry that the Falcons

almost had.

TRADE JETS TRADE 14th and 3rd rounder to Seahawks for 10th

10. Jets (from Seattle)- Chris Wells RB Ohio St.- Even though he has been injured, my guess is he ends up as the best RB in the draft if he decides to leave early. The Jets need a dynamic runner since Thomas Jones has not been the answer in New York. Wells can be the Run DMC that almost was.

11. 49ers- Eugene Monroe OT Virginia- 49ers need to be able to protect whoever is playing QB there next year and Jonas Jennings is getting older. Across from Staley, Monroe could be a nice person protecting the right side.

12. Vikings- Tim Tebow QB Florida- The Tarvaris Jackson experiment is over (FINALLY!). Now they need

to take the QB of the future here. Tebow won the Heisman last year and is very talented. Let’s hope he isn’t a Heisman bust. (Don’t be surprised if they take Jeremy Maclin and try to unite Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin).

13. Cardinals- Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia- Edgerrin James is getting older and the Cardinals need to spark their running game. They can let Edge go in a year or 2 and pair up Moreno and Hightower in the backfield for years to come.

14. Seahawks (from NYJ)- William Moore S Missouri- They need help in the secondary. They may trade up to get Rolle or Mays but in here, they are unable to and take the best safety available. Andre Smith and Duke Robinson could be the choice here also.

15. Bears- Sen’Derrick Marks DT Auburn- The Bears need to keep their D-line strong. The Vikings may have stolen their first choice pick in Tebow but at least they can keep their defense strong against the run with this pick.

16. Colts- Geno Atkins DT Georgia- Simply put, Colts can’t stop the run. Atkins is a good DT that can help them out. They may take an offensive lineman here but Atkins seems to be the pick if Marks doesn’t fall to them.

17. Saints- Andre Smith OT Alabama- The Saints need to sure up their O-line on the right side a little bit. Andre Smith is a great player which makes this a good pick for them. Although they need a CB, they have invested too much money in that position so therefore, they will probably look away from the CB position.

18. Packers- Greg Hardy DE Ole Miss- KGB is getting older and they need a DE for their rotation other than Aaron Kampman. Hardy is the best available so Pack take him here.

19. Ravens- Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio St.- Chris McAllister and Samari Rolle are getting older. Jenkins can learn under them for a year or 2 and then emerge as a top corner.

20. Patriots- James Laurinaitis ILB Ohio St.- This seems like it was destined to be. Everyone thought that Laurinaitis would go to New England last year and now he’s projected to go there again. Now Bruschi and Vrabel will have a replacement inside and not a bad one at that.

21. Jaguars- Brandon Spikes ILB Florida- Mike Peterson is getting older and the Jags can’t stop the run. This

solves both problems as Spikes can replace Peterson eventually and they will have help stopping the run.

TRADE EAGLES TRADE 24th and 4th ROUNDER TO BRONCOS FOR 22nd

22. Eagles (from Denver)- Percy Harvin WR Florida- The Eagles are surprisingly throwing the ball well with Hank Baskett and DeSean Jackson as their starting WRs. My guess is that if the Eagles can’t land a big name like Anquan Boldin or Roy Williams, they will draft a WR to play across from Kevin Curtis and put DeSean Jackson in the slot. Reggie Brown will probably be gone in a few years.

23. Buccaneers- Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri- The Buccaneers really wanted Harvin but with Philly trading in

front to get him, they are out of luck. Maclin is a nice consolation prize but we will see if he really is that good without Chase Daniel and the Missouri pass-attack.

24. Broncos (from Philadelphia)- Brian Cushing OLB USC- The Broncos need some help at LB since their defense is still horrendous. With Cushing, they can move DJ Williams back inside and put Cushing inside or they can switch them. Either way, it’s a good pick.

25. Eagles (from Carolina)- Ciron Black OT LSU- If it weren’t for the fact that Carolina offered a huge deal for the pick last year, the Eagles would have taken Jeff Otah. Now that they have sured up their receiving corps for the future, they can look to the offensive line where Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan don’t have much left in the tank.

26. Chargers- Duke Robinson OG Oklahoma- Mike Goff is 32 years old and hitting free agency. They need to give LT someone to run behind in the future.

27. Redskins- Trevard Lindley CB Kentucky- Shaun Springs is getting older and Fred Smoot is on the decline. Lindley can upgrade the corner position so they will have someone to play across from Carlos Rogers.

28. Steelers- Alex Mack C Cal- The Steelers O-line has been bad this year. Hartwig is doing ok but Mack can be a great long-term solution for protecting Big Ben. Mack is one of the best Center prospects in awhile so Pittsburgh can’t pass on him.

29. Bills- Marice Evans DE Penn St.- Bills need another pass rusher to compliment Aaron Schobel since

Ryan Denney and Chris Kelsay aren’t the answer. Evans will be reunited with former teammate Paul Posluszny here.

30. Cowboys- Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland- Dallas is looking for a WR. TO is in his 30s and behind him is Patrick Crayton, Miles Austin, and Sam Hurd. None of them is a #1 so they look to the draft and find Heyward-Bey.

31. Titans- Vince Ohgobaase DT Duke- The Titans need to find some depth at DT in case something

happens to Haynesworth. They need a WR badly but they also like their receiving corps for some reason. So instead they address the D-line.

32. Giants- Aaron Curry OLB Wake Forest- The Giants need depth in the front-7 since Kawika Mitchell is gone. What are they doing to do now without Umenyiora? They had to replace him with Kiwanuka and then be stuck with Danny Clark at OLB. Ouch.

This obviously will change over time. This is my preliminary mock draft.
