The popularity of breast augmentation surgery is rising all the time and today it is in the top ten most common cosmetic procedures performed. More often known as ‘a breast enlargement’ it is sought after by women who want larger breasts to improve their self image or women whose breasts have shrunk or sagged after having children and want to regain their shapely form. Weight loss can also affect the size of the breasts and those who have had a mastectomy after suffering breast cancer can have breast surgery to give them back their body shape. If you are considering breast augmentation surgery, bear in mind it is permanent.
Breast implant surgery is a common and safe procedure; results are generally positive and will last for a lifetime. A small incision is made under the breast itself or under the armpit where it is well hidden from view. Next, the breast implants are inserted into these incisions. It is necessary to have a general anesthetic for this type of surgery, and the treatment is performed at an outpatient facility at a hospital or in a cosmetic surgery clinic.
There are different types of breast implants to consider. Most common these days are cohesive gel implants as they provide a natural look due to their elasticity and flexibility. Cohesive gel is known not to rupture and can give a natural look and feel to the breast.
Breast augmentation is not an operation to be taken lightly as there are certain risks to be aware of. Always research and discuss the risks with your doctor or surgeon before making any rash decisions regarding breast enlargement. At your consultation with the surgeon they will look at certain factors. Your height and weight will be taken into consideration, along with your chest wall measurements, before any advice on the size and shape of your implants can be given.
Breast enlargements can make people feel more confident and raise their level of self esteem. Women in the modeling industry often undergo a breast enlargement as they feel it can enhance their career and make them more noticeable and popular.
Breast enlargements can increase confidence too. People with very small breasts can feel embarrassed to wear certain styles of clothes, such as close fitting tops or low cut dresses. This discontent with body shape can affect self esteem and cause a lot of unhappiness and even stop them from doing things they want to. Your surgeon will always discuss the outcome of the surgery with you and check you have realistic expectations before agreeing to carry out the surgery.
A general anesthetic is needed for breast surgery. An incision is made in one of three areas; under the armpit, underneath the breast fold or around the nipple. The chosen implant is inserted behind the breast tissue or under the chest wall muscle.
After the surgery, expect breasts to be swollen and tender. You will also experience a feeling of tightness as the skin is being stretched around the implant and it will be some time before this disappears. After three or four hours you will be able to go home where you will have to rest for at least two weeks. In this time the pain should subside and the swelling reduce. You won’t be able to do any heavy household chores or drive a car or play any games or physical activities. If you work, book at least two weeks off, to give you time to recuperate. Your new breasts will feel odd as you get used to their shape and weight, but after a few months you won’t even notice them anymore, other people will!
Results with breast augmentation surgery are immediate. Your new improved look will be difficult to miss and compliments will be flying. Your confidence will increase as you receive admiring looks and comments on how good you are looking. You will be more confident in the type of clothes you wear as your new body shape will make you look good in anything.
