Simple Problems That Can Be Fixed For Free to Sell Your Home Faster

It can seem like there is an infinite list of things you can do to fix up your home for sale.   The trick is to focus on those problems that if remedied, will result in either a quicker sale or a higher sale price (or both!).

It can seem like there is an infinite list of things you can do to fix up your home for sale.   The trick is to focus on those problems that if remedied, will result in either a quicker sale or a higher sale price (or both!).   If you take the time to fix these few simple mistakes you can do just that.   The best part is it will cost you nothing!

 

Furniture clinging to walls:

          It’s a good idea to move chairs away from the wall while being conscientious of traffic patterns.  Try creating a group by putting other pieces around it like a small table and lamp. Play with your furniture and make more intimate, purposeful and interesting spaces by separating the room into two different sections. Look for a focal point such as a fireplace or entertainment centre and arrange furniture related to that focal point. Stay away from furniture-lined walls and huge areas of empty floor space.

 

Table heights out of sync:

          When you have big bulky furniture and small little tables, a room can look and feel out of proportion. A quick fix for this problem is to create height on your tables with books and a nice big lamp.

 

Pictures hanging too high on the wall:

          Not all people are the same height. What may be eye level for you may be extremely high for someone else. When hanging pictures in a dining room or living room keep in mind that you want the art work to be easily seen when guests are sitting. Remember we don’t want to strain our neck to look at art. When hanging artwork in a foyer where you will always be standing, you can position pieces a little higher. Above the mantle, sofa or headboard, six to eight inches is a good standard height for hanging items on walls.

 

Pictures too small for big wall space:

          A big wall can be challenging to fill. In this instance gallery style hanging can be a good choice. Keep pictures at the same level, try pairing three or four. Always anchor your artwork with what’s below it like a chest of drawers or a buffet. You could even place a chair and lamp under your pieces.   Be sure of your furniture placement before hanging the artwork as moving the furniture even a few inches can make the artwork noticeably off-center.

 

Boring bookshelves:

          For starters, be sure to throw out any books that are falling apart and limit the number you have. It’s a great time to start packing.   Bookshelves don’t have to just hold books.   Include vases, as well as, accessories for interest and remember that odd numbers are visually more appealing, so try to group in threes.   Arrange the remaining books in groupings either standing up or laying flat.

         

Look around your house to find those things that would help create an inviting and appealing space.   Let those items accent the positive details of your home.   Clear out excess items to draw potential buyers to these focal points not mask them.
