Garage Floor Finish Provides More Attractive Surroundings

Those that view their garage as simply a place in which their vehicle is parked at night probably will not care about the garage floor finish but others take extra steps to create an attractive environment even in their garage.

Not everyone is happy with a plain garage floor and even after applying a fresh coat for paint they may feel as though something is missing. Those that view their garage as simply a place in which their vehicle is parked at night probably will not care about the garage floor finish but others take extra steps to create an attractive environment even in their garage. Especially, those who use their garage as an extension of their homes for home entertainment and parties find an attractive garage floor finish a plus in their outdoor environment.

Preparing the concrete floor for the application of a garage floor finish can be tedious and time-consuming, but it also insures the new finish will be on the floor longer. Simply sweeping and scrubbing the concrete before painting will result in a floor that looks terrific for a few days, but it will not take long before all the oil and grease left on the floor begins poking up through the new garage floor finish.

With today's paint technology there is no reason to stick with many of the old standard colors of red, grey or brown and by using some of the new epoxy based garage floor finish products, stone chips can be added to enhance the appearance of the garage floor.

Getting Floor Ready To Accept New Finish

Unless the garage floor finish is being applied to newly-poured concrete floor, there may be years of stains and surface contaminants that will have to be removed before the new finish is applied. When considering a new garage floor finish it is important to understand the difference between a finish and a garage floor sealer, and the function that each is intended to provide.

Any cracks in the concrete, especially in older garages need to be thorough cleaned of any dust and debris before filling with an epoxy compound to level the floor. The end result of applying a garage floor finish will be solely dependent on the quality of the preparation of the surface prior to its application. By insuring all cracks and chips are adequately cleaned and filled, the new surface will better adhere to the old floor.

Allowing enough time for the new garage floor finish to dry before using the garage is also a crucial part of the job. If the instructions say two days are needed for the floor to dry, depending on the air circulation in the garage, no less than two days should be allowed.
