One way to make sure you have the plants going where they belong is the use of landscape software. This allows you to design and visualize your garden to make sure you are making the most of your space. It will also help you identify any landscape supply needed to implement your garden. Having the right landscape supply will make or break your garden as well as your budget! By properly designing your garden, you will be able to determine exactly how much of any one landscape supply is needed to complete the job. Here are some have to have items to make sure is on your landscape supply checklist when heading to the store!
Common Landscape Supply
Soil: A common problem for new gardens is having fertile soil that will provide the nutrients your seeds or transplanted flowers need. Usually you will need to supplement your current soil with additional soil to get the right mixture. If you are building raised beds, you will need many bags of soil to fill it up to get started.
Mulch: During the hot summer months, your soil will dry out quickly with the sun beating down on it. To help protect your plants and maintain its moisture, mulch is used to provide some insulation. Common types of mulch are straw, pine needle or hardwood chips.
Edging: Used commonly to close in mulch or stone into a closed in area around your garden. Different types of edging are available to match the type of garden you are building and your budget.
Once you have the right landscape supply you can implement your design and get ready to plant your flowers! No garden is perfect the first year, so do not worry or get stressed if during the year you feel the need to move around a few plants or bring in some new items, that is the fun of gardening! As the growing season continues you may have the need for additional landscape supply such as fertilizer and insect control. These are very common and can be found at most nurseries.
