What is unclaimed cash?

The process to find unclaimed cash is easier than you think, but what exactly is it? Unclaimed cash could be a forgotten bank account , uncashed checks, gift certificates, credit balances, company or utility refunds, or even owed money. It could be a form of payment in business transactions, benefits from an old job, secret bank accounts of deceased spouse, or an undisclosed will from a relative. The possibilities are endless.

These are held and kept by the government, banks, institutions and other agencies.

According to the official sources, most of these frozen accounts are some serious financial assets. We’re not just talking about some petty lent cash; some sum up to at least thousands of dollars worth. Some even has interest in them. This is definitely good news especially in these economic times.

Although oftentimes the listed owners are private individuals, companies, businesses and institutions also join the list.

Looking for your unclaimed cash

If you want to learn if want you’ve left any asset in banks, agencies or institutions here and abroad, governments have announced to keep an open record for public viewing. They’ve already enlisted names of the rightful owners and your money is merely a matter of proper identification.

However, not all of us could just go to one country to another and check on records. Aside from its cost, there’s no guarantee that your money is in United States or Canada. Maybe you’ve left it in Texas or Mexico.

To make unclaimed cash search easier, online database search engines were launched. One of the most popularly used right now is Cash Unclaimed. These sites have gathered archives, files and records from all over the world. You could scour these files by your name, company name, or even business.

At the end of the day, it is not wrong to forget some of the accounts we’ve held before. And good thing it’s not too late to reclaim these. You’ll never know. You might have done some transactions in the past that could cater to your financial needs today.
