Right
to the last President George W Bush kept up the glorious 'Bushisms', even to
the final parting shot of his farewell speech.

President George W. Bush continued his unbeaten record of blunders with the English language, (or is that meant to be 'Bush Language')? As President George W. Bush left the podium, at the end of his long long long farewell speech, he raised his hand in a parting gesture to the gathered correspondents. Clearly and very strongly he said: "Let me leave you with this one last thing. You have all mis-underestimated me".
Now when you add a negative prefix to a word, as in mis-appropriate, mis-understand, mis-translate, you transform the word to its opposite meaning. Mis-uderestimate (no such word actually), means you gave the person too much credit. In his final words, soon-to-be-ex-President George W. Bush, may have got something right for once. Perhaps the world has given him too much credit, just as it seems he gave the banks too much credit.
While on the issue of Prime Ministers, take a look at ex Prime Minister Howard, who not only was the reason a Qantas plane was help up for 55 minutes, for an extra security check, but...
President-elect Barack Obama requested to shift into the pre-inaugural residence a few days earlier than normal, so as to settle his child into school, at the correct time. However, the Bush administration informed the president-elect that this was not possible. Someone had already booked the residence out.
When this was released to the media, one imagined it had to be a member of royalty, or a ruling Head of State. Surprise, surprise, it was none other than the Australian ex-Prime Minister John Howard.
So there were no hotels in Washington capable of handling an ex-prime minister? It is a well-known practice in the accommodation trade to over-book rooms, as someone is always bound to cancel out. Mr Howard could well have been expected to move.
What did ex-Prime Minister Howard dream of as he slept in the bed that should have been occupied by Barack Obama? Let's hope ex-Prime Minister John Howard is not holding his breath hoping for an invitation to the White House in the next four years or so.
