PHOENIX – November 8, 2009 –- The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is currently celebrating Accreditation Month, and the IABC Phoenix chapter is recognizing three of its members — Heidi Frei, Danielle LeBlanc and Rachel Pearson — for recently earning the elite Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) designation.
“Earning the ABC designation is a tremendous accomplishment for communicators,” said Jessica Hansen, IABC Phoenix president. “The IABC Phoenix chapter is proud to have one of the highest percentages of accredited members and would like to congratulate Heidi, Danielle and Rachel on joining this select group.”
IABC’s accreditation program measures the strategic abilities and technical skills of public relations and communication professionals. The peer-reviewed program enables candidates to assess their approach against a global standard, and it is an integral part of IABC’s commitment to member development and the advancement of the profession.
Rachel Pearson, former IABC Phoenix president and the latest member to earn IABC accreditation, said that becoming an ABC was an important milestone in her career. “For me, it reflects my commitment to the profession, my growth thus far in my career and a reminder to constantly challenge myself through continued learning,” she said.
A recent study of ABCs in seven countries found that becoming accredited improved their resumes, increased their confidence, enhanced their credibility and earned them peer approval and recognition. Their supervisors and clients agreed. A majority of current and former supervisors who participated in the study said ABCs brought more credibility to their organizations and departments, while participating clients perceived ABCs as demonstrating a better understanding of effective communication practices.
In a letter on the IABC Phoenix Web site, IABC Phoenix Director of Accreditation Danielle LeBlanc wrote that the ABC designation “sets you apart from your peers in the field when it comes to your next career move or even within your current organization.”
IABC is currently celebrating Accreditation Month. Submit your application for accreditation before November 15 and receive a $20 IABC Knowledge Centre gift certificate, as well as be entered into a drawing for more great prizes. And you can now simultaneously start the accreditation process while submitting an IABC Gold Quill Awards entry in the Communication Management or Communication Skills divisions and save $100 off the normal application fee.
