If you want keep your money safe when you are traveling, you should divide your cash and stash it in different places, carry only the necessary amount of local currency in your pocket, have a security pouch to keep your money, use a fanny pack instead of a purse or tote, use the hotel safe as a secure place to leave some of your money, and list down contact numbers of banks and other important information.

Traveling has some uncertainties. It is, therefore, vital to keep your money secured especially when you are not at home. If you do not want your plans and your trip to fall apart, here are some simple steps you can follow to keep your money safe while traveling:

Keep your money in different safe places

It is very important to remember not to keep all your cash in one place. If your wallet gets lost or stolen, you will have nothing left. It is always wise to break up your money and put it in different pouches. You can put a small amount in your wallet, some in your pocket, and some in other pouches.

Put only very minimal local currency in your pocket

You will need money on-hand for transportation and other small expenditures. The principle behind carrying only the necessary amount is that in case you lose the money to a pickpocket, the losses will not be that great. A money clamp will keep your bills together in place and organized.

Keep your money in security pouches

You can wear a money belt or pouch in order to hide cash from potential burglars. In your money belt, you can stash away large sums of money including your credit cards and any jewelry you brought along for use at a party. Transfer money from your security pouch to your pocket in a private place like a restroom if you have spent all the money you've brought along. Money belts are worn under the clothing so that they are invisible to thieves. Some security pouches are waterproof so your valuables stay dry during rain storms or when you go swimming.

Bring your fanny pack along instead of your tote or purse

If you are torn between using a tote or purse and keeping your money safe, consider using a fanny pack. Additionally, fanny packs are less enticing to thieves compared to totes and purses. A belt bag or fanny pack is a convenient option especially if you decide to walk around the streets. Keep your valuables visible and secure by wearing the pack in front of you.

Use the hotel safe as a secure place to leave some of your money

Should you go shopping at the mall or have dinner at fine restaurants, considering leaving some of your money and other valuables inside the safe in your hotel room. Just bring enough money for your transportation and other minimal expenses, as well as a little extra, and bring your credit card along for other spending needs.

Keep a note of contact information of banks and other important details

While traveling, it is not only the money in your pocket that is at risk. Keep a list of your bank's phone numbers and your traveler's check numbers, since your credit cards and traveler's checks are also at a risk of loss or theft. This way, it will be easier for you report a lost credit card to your bank to prevent anyone from illegally withdrawing your money.

With these simple tips, you can enjoy traveling more than before. These tips can be applied for both business and leisure trips and can help make the journey worry-free.
