Tourism can actually save the environment. A large number of people are now becoming more conscious of their actions toward the environment. Especially with the effects of global warming being felt, many people are now trying to help save the environment. An example of this is the rise of eco-tourism that caters to individuals who would want to explore and travel around the world in a way that doesn't negatively affect the environment. Eco-tourism is a novel idea of exploring the world while advocating for the environment.
Overseas travel could be made more environmental friendly by opting for eco-tours available in the country to be visited. Often composed of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and mountain climbing, eco-tours are best for physically active individuals. Not only do they get to explore and appreciate the natural beauty of a place, they are able to do it in a healthier and enjoyable way too.
An eco-friendly travel need not be limited to engaging in eco-tours. People who want to travel abroad could do certain things so that they could conserve energy when traveling. The first of which is to minimize air travel. Air travel far outweighs other modes of transportation in terms of energy consumption and carbon emissions. Thus, for people who want to travel abroad, instead of taking several long trips, it is better to choose a single locale and stay there longer.
Perhaps the most essential travel advice is to travel light. This is because people who travel are usually prone to waste. This can be avoided by planning the things to be brought in the trip. Bring only the things that are sure to be used because anything extra will become a waste. Having light luggage contributes to lower greenhouse gas emission.
It also emits a huge amount of greenhouse gases. If you can avoid it, then do it, after all, there might still be parts of the city, region or country you haven't visited yet, Try to stay long in one area instead of jumping from one tourist destination to another. Have a half day picnic under the trees in a National Park or take kids swimming for the day. When you do this, you avoid driving cars to get from one place to another. Also, this will allow your family and friends to appreciate and experience the tourist attraction you just visited, Before leaving your home, hotel or resort, be sure to turn off and unplug all appliances that are not in use, When exploring the locale, try as much as possible to use the public transportation available such as the bus, train, or taxi. Opt for walking or biking whenever possible. Not only is this cheaper, it is also healthier and a more enjoyable way travel around the area.
Purchasing locally produced food is another eco-friendly travel advice. This is because locally grown food has less food miles and carbon footprint. If you could spare time, visiting the local market is also a good option.
Finally, you can try to offset unavoidable carbon footprint by supporting projects aimed at environmental conservation and those which promote renewable energy and energy saving.
Conservation projects could also be earnestly supported in order to offset one's carbon footprint in traveling. By doing these energy saving measures, your travel will surely be eco-friendly and fun.
