No matter how long you have been with you partner neither of you should ever tire of being romanced. If your relationship has fallen on bad times and you both think that it is both working at then nothing helps you both to focus and rekindle your love for each other than a romantic weekend break away from the normal everyday life you lead at home.

Italy has so much to offer you if you choose to spend any great length of time there and even if you want to take one of the many cheap weekend breaks in Venice that are so popular at the minute thanks to the low cost airlines you will still be able to get a taste of how wonderful and open the country and people are. Italy is one of the few countries where the tourists do not bother the locals, sometimes as a tourist it can be as though you are looking through a window at Italian life as it goes on all around you without ever involving you.

Its churches and museums are house to invaluable works of art and its collapsing buildings only add to the added sophisticated feeling that trickles from the zigzag passageways and flowing canals.

Do opt for a vaporetto trip! This is the waterborne equivalent of a bus; it may look grottier than its glamorous gondola cousins, but it is considerably more enjoyable. Board at the first stop on your chosen 'bus' route to make sure you get a good seat on deck.

Better still, hire your own boat and see the canals your way. Head down to Brussa and hire a boat for £17 an hour. They aren't hard to steer and you'll be given a brief lesson - before you know it you'll be heading off down tranquil backwaters, stopping off for a glass of wine in a secluded bar. Now that's what I call romance!

A delicious lunch can be found at Trattoria alla Madonna, situated along the Grand Canal. The uniformed waiters offer superb service at a good price. The food is both plentiful and delicious.

For example, those wandering in and around St Mark's Square - a hotspot for tourists - will find much to take in when it comes to architecture.

Whether it's the Doge's Palace and its Gothic features or the Byzantine Venetian style of St Mark's Basilica, holidaymakers are likely to be genuinely taken aback by what they see.
