The teeth whitening system has become extremely popular in the past few years. Earlier, people would go to their dentist to get whiter teeth, and would also end up paying a hefty amount for this service. As this process was very expensive, not all could afford this service on a regular basis. This is when some people dealing with the dental industry figured out that people would find it to be more convenient if they could use this service at home all by themselves. Thus, they came up with a system for whitening teeth at home.

It has been medically proved that over a period of time, human teeth naturally become stained and dark. This happens due to the absorption of the so-called chromogenic agents. These agents are generally chemicals, dyes and additives which are found in beverages and food and lead to the discolouration of the teeth. Some of the common examples of these agents are red wine, tobacco, some sodas, coffee and tea. Apart from these food items, these agents are also found in certain medications like minocycline and tetracycline.

The teeth whitening system which are home based are actually similar to what are used by the dentists. It is similar in the way it uses the same set of peroxides which help in bleaching the colour of the teeth in an effective manner. One of the most popular methods of teeth bleaching at home includes a plastic tray which fits around teeth in a comfortable manner. This tray fitted around the teeth allows the peroxides to apply onto the enamel for a long period of time. You can even fix the tray and go off to sleep. Thus, it will completely soak into the enamel of the teeth overnight.

There are different types of teeth whitening procedures used by the dentists around the world. These are:

In Office Chemical Teeth Whitening: This is also known as bleaching, and is among the most commonly used teeth whitener method. In this process, some gel is applied to teeth, which is then exposed to white light. If it is laser tooth whitening, then the teeth are exposed to laser. This light helps in creating a reaction which results in the gel penetrating the tooth's enamel. This reaction removes the stain from the teeth, and is ,thus  very effective.

At Home Home Chemical Teeth Whitening: In this process, a tray is fitted by the dentist to your teeth. It also has a gel applied to your teeth. You have to keep it overnight and then remove it in the morning. This results in whiter teeth.

Apart from this, there are few other treatments used for the whitening of the teeth like Micro-abrasion and Abrasive Tooth Whitening.
